What happened on Saturday James, on minute you were there then you had disappeared?
-
I won't say too much because we really don't want to cause any ripples.
When we arrived at Newent (in good spirits!) we drove around to see where everyone was before booking on. When we drove back towards the reception, there were a couple of cones blocking access.
I asked Maria to move one of them so I could move over to reception and pay. As she was doing this, the campsite lady shouted across the road at Maria, in a rather condescending tone, "they're there for a reason".
I immediateely apologised to the lady, said "I'm sorry, we made an honest mistake and came the wrong way, and we'd like to book onto a pitch".
The lady then repeated what she said, and despite my initial apology she wasn't at all civil to Maria. Quite rude in fact, at which point I told her quite bluntly that "Honest mistakes do happen!"
Bottom line was, we did not feel at all welcome on their site following this - so we left :y
-
I think the problem was, that one car probably looks very much like another to the old lady and she has probably asked everyone who drove through the cones not to (when she asked me not too she was very pleasant)because due to the amount of rain, the field was becoming very boggy. The sad thing is you probably missed a good weekend more than the woman missed her £6 :(

Of course I fully understand her reasons - and respect them - but in our opinion her conduct was such that we didn't want to stay on her property.
It's not a problem - we went down to Devon instead - and with the exception of Newent, we will still see you at all the other sites OOF meet at :y
-
I heard what you and the site owner said myself, she was no different with you than with anyone else being fair. The field was very water logged and she was trying to stop the grass from becoming a mud bath, that is why she put up the cones. You also drove straight past the reception without stopping to ask where you needed to go.
Then when you roared off down the drive someone coming onto the site came and made a complaint about you.
I must admit I felt in rather a position when asked about it.
-
Even so Loo-knee there was still no need for her to be so dame right rude to me and we was very pleasant to her but I know now that she was the mother of the owner and she was like that to some of OOF members and was not at all very pleasant to them , I'm sorry that you was in the middle of it all and thanks for telling us where to go but I was upset by the way she spoke to me
-
Personally Maria I didn't find her rude, a bit stressed maybe.
-
She could of said to me "please can you go an other way as they was put there for a reason not just say " they was put there for reason in a very bad mannered way and i shouldn't be spoken to like that when James was very pleasant to her people don't have any good manners any more
-
Whoa
As said in my first line, we are not wanting to cause any ripples, hence why we just decided it wasn't going to work out.
The question was asked, the opinion was offered - let's leave it at that please guys.

Think you need to learn to chill out a little, spitting your dummy out in the job your hoping to do and you could wake up with a vest full of broken ribs ;D

If someone feels the need to complain, I'm happy to pass on my details.
I think, I know when we are not wanted :y

I have not heard anyone say you were not wanted, no use playing the hard done to card.
No-one from the forum complained it was someone else who was staying on the other side of the camp.
Grow up

I'm not making out I'm hard done at all.
Regarding your comments I need to chill - I actually agree. I've been under heck of a lot of stress lately and the little things do seem to set me off at the moment. It's something I am seeking some help for.
But your sarcastic comments regarding broken ribs, weren't really called for, and were the basis for my comment.

A very valid fact too - but possibly one that would have been better discussed by PM.

You didn't need to "rant" in the first place. We agreed just to slip off and not cause a fuss or a problem. The question was asked, and an answer was offered - it should stop there.
-
Wish i'd not asked now. :-?
You and me both Pete.

OK guys... I wasn't there and only have the forum to go b but can we calm this down and play nicely please??

True... Just got visions of it getting a little out of control!
Truth be known James, from what I've heard you did the right thing for how you felt by leaving there and then. There is no excuse for rudeness. But equally, perhaps moving cones isn't the right move either...
Who knows how things would have been if anyone else had been in the position you found yourself in. At the end of the day, a good weekend was still had by all :y :y :y

When I moved the cones she said they were put there for a reason, but I can't say she was rude and I dont remember anyone else saying she was rude to them either but I could be wrong. Loo-Knee organised it so maybe someone has complained to him.
-
Pete it was her attitude and the tone of her voice that i didn't like and a please dont go a miss thats what i was saying
-

I only saw one person on my way out, and I courtiously pulled over to allow him through, so I've no idea who it could be, to be honest.
To be fair - we only acted on OUR perception of how she spoke to us. Different people view things differently.
We felt it wasn't going to work out for us - so we left without wanting to cause any fuss - then this thread goes on.
I would have thought if the complaint was substantial enough I would have been contacted about it before now, rather than just see it "in passing" when someone asks a question on the forum.
If the complainant would like to contact me directly to discuss his concerns then of course that is fine, and upon that I will apologise to that person if there is a genuine need to.
-
Just read through this thread and I must say that viewing it from the outside with no prior knowledge of what happened, it's amusing me greatly ;D

I only asked because one minute you were there, I moved my car and you had gone.

I don't mind you asking at all Pete, but I do have a problem with somone saying a complaint has been made about me when it's on an open forum.
such matters should be discussed with me Via PM - and possibly by one of the admin team, if it is of enough significance to bring up here.

Afternoon Folks, how are we all ::)
-
Hi timbuk
I'm fine thanks :y

Can we keep this on topic please guys

Can we keep this on topic please guys
I thought you wanted to put closure on it this, which i was trying to do in a light hearted manner ;)
-
There's no point in going on about it, I said my bit and how I felt how I was treated so as far as i am concerned it's closed
-

We could of stayed and said hello but I and James was very anode
with the way she spoke to us and very rude, I know they was there
for a good reason but we made a silly mistake and it was the tone of
her voice that I was not happy with and in my opinion i should of not
be treated that way I just want to put in behind me now and for get it

So stop posting about it, then! ;)

What a pity. I for one was looking forward to meeting you both as long standing members of the forum.
Next time James :y
Most importantly , lets not fall out between ourselves over this. Question was asked (I wondered too), has been answered, and probably worth locking this thread and moving on :y

Nope but we all use this site a lot so its nice to clear the air. And while i stand by out decision to leave i probably owe loo knee an apology for not explaining at the time even if we did book seperately

My 2 p's worth .... methinks you may not appreciate my views.. :(
If I was running a business and I coned off an area I would NOT expect someone to just turn up and move the cones .. without the decency of checking in and/or asking why the cones were there.
Had it been me the comment "they are there for a reason" - actually totally correct .. they were ... would have been a far stronger "What the B**** H*** do you think you are doing ?"
We were there 48 hours .. they have a business to run 365 days a year and don't need folks ignoring their wishes then driving through a wet field at high speed. Don't say you were not speeding .. you drove straight past me !!!
As a regular "pikey wagon" user I have learned to respect 2 things .... wet grass and the presence of children - your speed did nothing for either.
Sorry for being blunt .. but in this case I think you were in the wrong.
Just my opinion .. nothing else.
-
For the most Nige, I think you are right, actually. And, for the parts where I may have been in the wrong, I will accept responsibility and apologise. You've made some valid points which I'll take on board.
That said -
I agree with your comments (and indeed her comments!) They are there for a reason. But - I wasn't trying to enter the field, I was trying to get back to reception, hence I thought it better to drive through the cones, rather than turn around and drive on her field again :y
-
my comments are not aimed at the situation, more the person.
The lady in question is somewhat 'sharp' in her style of conversation, she clips her words and is quick to retort, this would be easily confused with someone being curt, and with a raised tone could easily create a negative impression by the recipient......
shame you chose to leave, despite the weather it was a good one
-
There will be many others :y
-
I wasnt gonna reply to this thread.....but decided to add my view....
I think there were faults on both sides.....
I agree with Entwoods post.......but have to add i think there were a slight probs with the site owners side.....
So my comment.....
I think the site owners were under quite a bit of stress of fitting us all in.........and trying not to churn up the camping site......but what i couldnt understand was why block off the exit point in the field......but not block off the entry point?
Presumbly if the entry point had of been blocked off as well then James wouldnt have entered the field to start with ??
And after seeing management.......would have been allowed into the field to unload then asked to move his omega onto tarmac.....as everyone had been asked to do
So yes i agree with James........with moving his Omega out of the nearest exit point.......wouldnt have happened if the entry point was blocked as well i dont think.........tho should have stopped at entrance booking in point to start with.......i did......wasnt hard to see the sign...but mistakes happen.....
I did see the speed you left the site James......as Entwoods comments.....totally uncalled for even tho you were pee'd off
So i think it was probably site management/James fault........50/50 split.......in my opinion
Thank goodness site management didnt see what a certain oofer did when entering the field when he arrived........dont think a power slide would have been appreciated ::) ;D

I hope i've been around long enough now to say that Yes, James can be a little "vocal" when something rattles his cage as can i as i've displayed more than once!!! However i ask you all to cast your mind back just a few nights to a certain "Squaddie" post where James was the voice of reason & calmed things (me) down when feelings were running high to say the least. Not dwelling on that particular post but the point is he kept a clear head.
I was'nt at Newent so can't comment, just want to redress the balance. Guy. :)

I was tempted but was well aware it would have been possible to shower people in the next field with a boot full of 2.6 and TC switched off so thought better of it

That would have given the campsite owner something to shout about ::) ::) ::), seriously though, they do get protective of their grass, it is so easy for cars to do a lot of damage when the fields are so wet.

It's not Mark's fault - that car is can't help itsself (at least that was always my excuse! ;D)

That manovre did less damage than everyone else trying to get traction and accidently wheel spinning through it, he gently glided over the field ;D
