Generic email from Octopussy energy.
They say my bill (presumably in common with everyone else) is likely to rise by more than 75%.
I thought 50% was taking the piss. :-X
I wonder if the government is going to help? ::)

Brilliant for EV owners :-X

They might help, but not people like you.
Also, Octopus will stick within the price cap, and they don't know what that is yet.

I'm afraid, as with all the other 'budget' energy suppliers who have gone bust, Octopus Energy is now like the rest having to come to terms with the massive rise in wholesale prices. They, as with the bankrupted firms, just not being able to afford to give any real discounts to customers if they are going to survive and, as STEMO correctly states, they will have to keep withing the price cap, whilst trying to avoid going bust!
The challenge is though that the price cap itself is rising fast, trying to keep in touch with the reality of the wholesale prices that are affecting the whole World. In the UK we have the added problem that so many of us use gas to heat our homes and to cook with. Apparently we use the most within Europe, so we are going to be hit the hardest. :'( :'(
From what I have heard 75% is going to be the cheap level, with the experts predicting rises of 100-150% and rising!! :'( :'(

Well, I'll be making good use of my log burner. Trees might get a bit sparse round here, mind. :-X

Or you could speak nicely to the Mid-Hants Railway and arrange to pick up the coal remains of their loco's dropped fires.
There was always unburnt coal lying around! :D :D ;)

I've just received the same email, but I shall ignore it. My fix doesn't end till May 2023. :)

We'll be back living in caves & making fires from sticks, and using horse & carts to please the greenies, progress I don't think so.

No wonder they are losing money if they are actively advising you to stop using their product🤓

In the sales world that is a sign of desperation or attempted suicide! :o :o

If the government don't step in to help poorer households with their fuel bills, it won't be batflue deaths to worry about, it would be hypothermia.
-
Bear in mind when you buy your electrickery fuelled car that you should never charge it past 80% nor let it drop below 50% if you want the battery to last any...

So far its all good for EV's they are either sticking with the 5p offpeak or moving to 7.5p depending on when you signed up etc.

While the householder funk. Ing freezes to death paying a fortune

Octopus would like it if I switched everything off and moved out. I must be costing them a fortune.

Not factual that, those figures are more lead acid than any EV battery tech, even the base cells used on the entry level cars
Plus the leading SUV's don't allow 100% charge or discharge (there is effectively battery capacity that is 'not available'), this does not include VAG who are having 'issues'

Can people afford to gas themselves?

You may have a point. ::)
Swinging from a rope is probably cheaper. ::)
Seriously though, quite a few people top themselves when they can't find a way out of debt. :-\ :-X

Doesnt matter though. We are all contributing to reducing our 1% of the damage caused to the polar bears. :y

To call them 'issues' somewhat under values them...
Those were the criteria set by MG according to a real world test versus a used Leaf... Might have been a Dispatches programme looking at alternative alternatives. :-\
