I did see this  :o
Can't see how he got cars without insuring them, tax and V5 etc
unless he just borrowed cars and someone was enabling him  :-\

So he was actually stopped for No Insurance...

That's unlucky.

Eh? Who has ever had someone demand to see proof of tax and insurance before you drive away the car you've just bought?  ;D

I can see where Dave is coming from, the seller usually sends off the V5 which would, at least, give them the address of the new owner.

Maybe he promptly SORNED the car and drove locally where there are no ANPR cameras?  ???

I reckon I could get away with that for years round here and as long as I didn't have a prang nobody would be any the wiser.  ::)

A bloke from around here drove a van for the gas board for nearly 30 years until someone discovered he had never had a driving licence.  ;D

Probably plenty more doing exactly the same, I know my late father in law had never taken a driving test & I don't recall ever finding a driving licence when we cleared his belongings, his cars were taxed & insured though and I'd known him since 1971 until he died in 2005 totally accident free.

Years ago when we bought a car for SWMBO I phoned to insure it, got the certificate etc which was then put in a drawer. Nearly a year later, I used the reminder for the registration when I phoned round for quotes. It turns out that the 1st insurer had transcribed a U for a V ... so on paper, the car had been driven the length of the country & around & about not insured. The bottom line is that I should have checked .... but I didn't as I assumed they'd done their end properly.

Nobody came knocking on the door!

So some old codger is driving around for 70 years without a license or Insurance, whereas some innocent youngster gets persecuted by the police - arrested 3 times in a few days.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cornwall-60175290

I can't see what the youngster did wrong? Or the bloke that picked him up from the cop shop? ::)

Yes, but neither of them had been doing it for 70 years.

Oh and where do I report another sarcasm detector failure. ::)

Never had an accident.........or never hung around at the scene of an accident.

I know somebody who was accident free, not a straight panel on the car though.
