Title: Fracking
Post by: Sir Tigger KC on 10 February 2022, 22:19:11
Fracking is officially dead in the UK now as the Oil & Gas Authority has ordered Cuadrilla to permanently seal it's two wells in Lancashire by filling them with concrete and abandon the site.  :-\

Fracking has obviously been extremely controversial in the UK with claims that the water table will be contaminated and the process causes earthquakes. Others say that the 'earthquakes' that caused headlines were actually tremors that were only felt with sensitive equipment, and that the Russians have funded green groups across Europe to the tune of 90 million Euros to oppose the process and lobby politicians to ban it.

Apparently there are an estimated 37 trillion cubic metres in the Bowland shale gas formation and experts say that small proportion of this would meet Britain's gas needs for 50 years! Meanwhile ministers and officials have been slow to approve new oil and gas projects in the North Sea, so we will continue to import shale gas from the Americans and we will pay through the nose for it!  ::)

I think this is utter madness!  Some will agree with me, but some will cheer the decision.  What do you think?  ???

The effect of building turbine fields over nuclear, or even gas, power stations is being felt right now. It should be obvious to anyone with any sense that you can't just 'go green' in such a short time. We will be reliant on gas and oil for at least twenty years, trouble is, we'll have to import it.
And, to get back to a point I've been making for years, even if UK PLC switched everything off tomorrow, it wouldn't make a jot of difference globally.

It all comes back to the fact that we need a govt with a pair of balls.
Boris has a huge majority, so should be able to do whats right and ignore all the whingers.
His boss (carrie antionette) is chief among the whingers though, so he cant.
What a mess we have got ourselves into.  :(

I’m with you more than 100% on this it is the greedy corrupt bastards that have vast finances tied up in renewable energy.. / oil,👀 and such and will not benefit from this harmless practice that’s fuc/ng it up for us poor Brits.    Look at the USA for an example of what can be accomplished by this method it speaks volumes.

One learning point from Covid Crisis and Putin Aggression is surely self sufficency.

Who would be a German householder hoping for gas if Russia does invade Ukraine ( again)?

Drax power station imports Biomass rather than use its own chopped down trees.

I fully agree with you Sir Tig :y

We need to frack, build nuclear power stations, open up gas and oil fields in the North Sea, even use, horror of horrors, COAL again, anything to  counteract the tremendous hike in energy bills.

In the UK’s effort to achieve zero carbon emissions, we are driving our lives back to the harsh days of the past, and worse, with very cold homes, and limited food to feed the families, with people NOW desperate to find a way to somehow survive.

Let the politicians start being realistic and do what is right for the people NOW, and forget ‘targets’.  We are in a crisis, and it needs crisis measures to start the process to resolve the issues of today, and for the moment forget about tomorrow.   :(

With her permission he recently decided that hiring Guto Harri would be a step forward.

He is best known for working for the BBC and shamelessly taking the knee on GB news. :-X :-\

This fella comes across as a total and utter idiot!  ::)

On his first day in the job he disclosed in an interview that he and Boris sang Gloria Gaynor's I will survive and said that Boris is “not a complete clown, but he’s a very likeable character”.  :-X

Then last night he deleted a tweet that he'd re-tweeted earlier, endorsing John Major's criticism of the PM.  ::)

Where the f... do they find these people for Gods sake?  ::)   :-\  ;D

The problem is all these things need long term planning, and investment returns over 10-20 years. No company is going to invest billions into exploration and production facilities if there is a chance that sometime in the near future the govt changes it's mind and pulls the rug out from under it. Much safer to invest that money where you trust the govt to not change it's mind.

Peacefully of course... Because that really pisses of the leftie wokeists. When they finally stop hysterically screaming enough to notice everyone else is quiet.  :-X

Yep I'm sketchy on the details (so correct me if I'm wrong) but I understand that one of, if not the main reason that Shell pulled out of it's stake in the Cambo oil field off the Shetlands was a lack of government support, which is understandable after the Oil & Gas Authority vetoed Shell's plans to develop the Jackdaw gas field in the North Sea.  :-\

The way the tree huggers and yogurt knitters have captivated our politicians and influenced policy is quite worrying to be honest and it's really not going to end well. ::)   I have intelligent university educated friends who think the Swedish girl who bunked off school is some sort of messiah, and that the Insulate Britain/Extinction Rebellion crowd are" just doing what needs to be done. "   :)

Thing is... They're the sort who'll be the first to get outraged when their gas bill lands on the mat and they'll quickly start ranting about the effing Tories!  Sigh...   ::)

You'll have to survive the 'summer' first. I believe it gets quite warm first.

There's a bit of fun to be had first. Putin will invade Ukraine, Xi will take Taiwan because the US is busy and Iran might think it's worth having a pop at Israel because no one will notice.
Except the Israelis  :-\
