and get a big drawered red tool chest worth £149 free! - Felt good and solid :y
Either overpriced on their own, but think its a reasonable deal for the pair

You are spot on with your comment. However compared to snap on they are well priced, and the Halfords pro range has a good guarantee. Good purchase.

Sounds pricey, a 100 quid tool kit with a sub 100 quid tool box.......
Just because the tool kit is currently stupidly over priced at the moment!

As an aside, I notice the machine mart tool boxes have taken a significant hike in price looking at the catalogue that dropped through the door over the weekend :'(
Time to study the Machine Mart book, with Christmas approaching....

I'm sure I only paid about £85 quid with a trade discount on that socket set - the deal isn't bad but worth £150 tops rather than £200 IMO

£95 on trade.
Sadly, retail offers aren't valid for trade customers, as that would be good value to get socket set and toolchest for £95

appears on special offer at £50 once in a while.
I'm considering requesting from the fat man in a red suit..

Got their other type - open ended spanner one end, rachet at other. There are pretty good, but with the 2 usual Halfords downsides - too thin (digs in hand on tight stuff), and rachet mechs only covered by 1yr warranty.

That's right, I got it on trade and used a £10 voucher thingy too... its a shame it doesn't happen on trade, even on staff discount (got my old card) its still £170 :o

I think that set is regularly on offer at £100 isn't it?
While its nice having everything in a box (for eg going on camping trips.. ;) if you have a few tools/ratchets/spanners already, there is a lot of duplication. As TB said I have heard others complain about the thin spanner handles.
I bought some Draper Expert spanners last year and can't fault them.
Machine Mart have some decent kit at reasonable prices (esp on their 'VAT free' days), but they also have some crap, so be careful.
