Title: mot
Post by: raywilb on 15 March 2022, 19:10:32
last week i took my DS 4 to a ds outlet for a mot & a service. no surprises all was ok but whilst there in the 3-4 hours that they have it they give it a health check and i was informed that my tyres ( not quite a year old ) were down to 5.6mm , all 4 worn evenly but was told they advise getting them changed when i book next years mot. also a similar story regards front discs & pads. no advisories at all with mot

Thats only half worn.  Seems an odd suggestion.

Mercedes main dealer said I needed new discs & pads at the front shortly after i bought my ML.. £550 ... 2 & half years, a couple of services at a local independent & around 20k miles later I'm still on the same discs though new pads were fitted.

If I read that right, they're suggesting new tyres for the next Mot. That's a year away and they could well be down to 3-4mm by then.

Not a bad shout from a plan ahead perspective with a set of decent tyres costing £500...

Mr B, you clearly aren't trying hard enough ;D

Not that I can talk, being a reformed character, and all that.  See, that patronisation course I had over 3 years ago was worth every penny of the £95  ::)

Traffic lights and speed restriction signs don't make a noise, you're supposed to just look at them  ;D

I look at them, take note of them, and then forget about  them.   ::)  I'm trying really hard now, I may even get enough distance between the offences to qualify for a second course.  ;D

Apparently, I might be able to get another one, should I get caught stray.  Not that that will happen, being a fully reformed character...

I've found ASDA Tyres to be very competitive Ray and have had some good deals from them, so worth checking there.  :y

Worth checking round a few places, as the price can vary massively.

My local chap matches Blackcircles prices, which are normally at the reasonable end of cheap.  I use him as he's local, and he'll sort shit like it throwing a balance weight etc.

Never found it worthwhile to buy tyre only, and then pay for local fitting, as cheapest fitting I can find around here is £15+VAT per tyre :(

£85 for those sounds pretty reasonable without knowing the size.

Proper sized tyres are double that.

£7.67 more expensive than I pay locally for the same make of 225/50/17.
