Dot Cotton was the female version of Albert Steptoe a comment made by Dr Opti in the other thread
Got me thinking of other stars
Old man Steptoe was a classic :y
Lenard Rossiter in Rising Damp
Nora Batty
Nellie pickersgill
Hilda Ogden
Ena Sharples
So many
They dont make shows like they used to. :y :y
-
Jean Alexander was a superb actress. She was nothing like Hilda Ogden in real life.
Swmbo still watches Corie for reasons unknown, and these days its like a brainwashing programme for whichever left wing cause is most fashionable this week. ::)
-
I would literally watch paint dry than watch a soap.
Utter utter shite.
-
Several years ago I thought that Eastenders was finished for good after the BBC announced that every dull and dreary character was to be axed. We still have that shite polluting the air waves
-
Not a soap star, but a TV classic that we don't see any more. :)

I think that applies to all of them really.
Apparently, farming doesnt happen now in Emmerdale Farm.
-
Which might be why they dropped Farm from the title a long time ago.
Swmbo also watches it ::) and yes, its the same as Corrie, even has almost identical storylines, with a different backdrop.
Utter shite.
-
Dangerous utter shite. The kebab and red bull brigade get to see all the current social issues handled 'sympathetically'. Brainwashed without even realising it.
-
I'm becoming really fed up with the utter shite that is offered on television at present, hate soaps & can honestly say that I have never watched any reality programmes hate these people that crave their fifteen minutes of fame, some even resort for more attention by attempting suicide or becoming anorexic to draw attention to themselves because they're not famous enough, total crap..

Sheep shagging farmers are not required in 2022.
Diversity and inclusion is. :D ;D ;D ;D

Oh yes it is, alive and kicking on Moira Dingle 's farm, with also the rest of the Dingle clan having a small pig enclosure outside their home.
You really should get up to date! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;)
These soaps may have poor scripts and seem daft, but they are an escape from the real world for the 30 or 60 minutes they are on. It is a way of watching other 'people' making the mistakes we all make.
Cannot stand EastEnders though; far too depressing with always criminal, murderous intent. The once funny moments have long gone! ::) ::)

I thought Emmerdale farm was wiped out by a plane crash...... ;D

They're not going to miss an opportunity like Ukraine, Emmerdale will be nuked by Vladolf.

Unfortunately there are viewers of this rubbish who think that the characters are all too real. ::)

Jeeze, your life must be depressing if you need that sort of mindless escapism :o

No, quite the opposite as I laugh at many of the story lines, and when these soaps are on, which millions of us women watch (along with men who deny it, but do) we are not having to watch boring football, motor racing, rugby, etc! ;D ;D ;D ;)
-
I don't actually watch much telly. And when I do, I'm usually on here etc. I'm currently watching Convoy 3 or some such shit with Chuck Norris.
-
I've just watched three episodes of 'Bangers and cash' back to back, but even that's getting a bit samey.
-
Drivel , utter drivel for the magnolia masses .
Nothing wrong with magnolia! ;D
-
Two words crop up throughout this thread.
Utter
Shite.
Opiate of the masses rather than get involved in real issues or factual tv.
-
Tiger King anyone?
:D

But what a great way to earn a living, they certainly get a wide choice of vehicles .
-
or factual tv.
Dunno about Spain, but we ain't got that in the UK, as well you know. The traditional "factual" stuff has been replaced with "outrage" stuff, to appeal to trailer trash. And the UK news is about as accurate as RT...

Skruntie started this thread. :D
After sorting all the tins in his kitchen cupboard into alphabetical order he likes to relax with a bit of Corrie. ;)
-
Yer right Opti I did start the thread.
All I can say is what I allways said about Mary Whitehouse (Think that was her name) You dont like it then dont watch it. ::)
Coronation Street cant be all that bad considering the amount of time its been running. :y

I'm not picking on Corrie. They are all equally bad. ;D
I prefer a good documentary. :y
-
I don't know the exact statistics but I'd guess the vast majority of soap viewers (probably 80%) are old women over 60.

At least Corrie and Emerdale are funded by adverts... We have to pay for Webenders whether we watch it or not.

I don't pay.
It's quite easy to do and I even got a refund on money I had paid in advance. :y
-
Oh you do ;)
You might not pay for a TV licence, but that barely covers the cost of the infrastructure. Like the NHS, if you pay tax (directly or otherwise) then you're paying for it whether you want to or not.

The infrastructure used by the BBC is paid by the BBC, be that OB links, terrestrial transmission (on a shared basis) or iPlayer infrastructure and bandwidth.

Slightly different from the ones that you see on the end walls on the Falls Rd. or Bogside. i suppose. ;)

Is that to replace the mural of the black woman with hoop earrings.....the one that shows how diverse and inclusive the people of Albert Square are? ::) ::) ::)
Who owns that house?

Don't know, but they'll be mightily pissed off when they put the bins out.

You could imagine them turning the corner looking up and saying " What the f*uck is that.....I'll kill those kids if I get my hands on them" ;D ;D ;D

Apparently the house in question belongs to Ian Beale.
Perhaps he hasn't noticed it yet, or he is a BLM supporter. ;D ;D

In this 'Alice in Wonderland' world where up is down and black is white, yes. ;)

Guy i worked with was massively into paintball. Adam Woodyat (aka Ian Beale) and a load of his mates had a weekend at his site. Reckons they were a total bunch of tvvats.
