The national team doesn't interest me at all. Teams are vying for success in league and cup competitions, paying their players millions of pounds, and they go off to play in an international friendly against Macedonia or the like and break their leg.

Tommy Smith would have 'run off'  a broken leg much like stitch. :)

Not many modern players will break a leg, whereas it was far more common before the rules on tackling and body contact  followed  the UK girls netball rules.  :-X
