You will never understand how the average women can be degraded, and her life in a work setting can be made hell. I have witnessed this in the commercial world, and was made very aware of very sexist comments made towards women in the police. Time for change is now, and if the men in our society cannot learn to behave and respect women, then they will see more of these legal actions for compensation.
If men folk find these compensatory actions unpalatable and “a joke”, start making your work places, and other situations comfortable and safe for the fairer sex, with equal opportunities. This is the 21st century, not the 1950’s. :( :(

As for your second observation; that describes perfectly what the male, sexist, bullies think. In other words if we don’t like the comments on a woman's sexual attributes, that would never be spoken about by males about other males, then the women should leave! What a load of 'dangle berries'! >:( >:(

I understand where you are coming from Lizzie but if you worked in the automotive industry years ago the women in the Trim Shop were absolute animals. The Trim Shop was a separate area for making the car seats and when a machine broke down some poor young maintenance guy would have to go in there to fix it. He would be groped, mauled and ridiculed, which might seem a laugh to begin with but soon wore thin. What could the guys do, if they reported it they would get laughed at, so it continued for years, with the women having their own little game.
You can imagine what would happen if the situation was the other way around and a guy stuck his hand between one of their legs.

The Trim Shop was a separate area for making the car seats and when a machine broke down some poor young maintenance guy would have to go in there to fix it. He would be groped, mauled and ridiculed, which might seem a laugh to begin with but soon wore thin. What could the guys do, if they reported it they would get laughed at, so it continued for years, with the women having their own little game.
You can imagine what would happen if the situation was the other way around and a guy stuck his hand between one of their legs.
Same at the sports section in Dunlops, where they made golf balls. About fifty women on the machines, and two lads wheeling stuff in and out. There was a night shift there which seemed to make them even worse for some reason. And, before you think 'lucky lads', I don't think you'd like five or six sweaty, toothless old gals pinning you down and roughly fondling your bits.

Yes, that was, and is, terribly wrong. No question about it, and those women who do such things must take responsibility if men return ‘the favour’. There can be no excuses for either men, nor women, acting like that.
But, of course, it could be that the men acting like they can and do rather encourage women to be ‘like the lads’, or “Ladettes” as my sister and I used to call them. Like swigging pints of beer back, spitting and swearing, trying to outdo the blokes. Totally wrong of course.
May society become equal to all and show due respect and decency, but I think that may take some time to come about!! ::) ::)

I recall as a grad my first visit to New Century Park in Coventry (GPTs Telemcoms electronics factory, prior to this it was a car factory, now demolished and has a new Lear (automotive) factory making seats).
Myself and Simon Johnson had to go there for a meeting with the AME team, whilst I was talking to one of them, Simon popped over to stores to pick up some components.
I still remember him getting half way across the assembly floor and there was a shout of 'fresh meat', poor lad was stark bolluck naked in seconds when this group of women (there were no men on the assembly floor) had finished. All quite amusing, he took it very well but, from then on in took the long way round to stores.
You constantly got groped and abused but, it was part of the way there and meant little
As you developed you soon got to know a few of the workers and got quite a rapor up, full on banter, give and take............you also discovered how you could get your jobs up the assembly line que with a multipack of mars bars!
