Is it time for Nato to guarantee free egress and ingress of shipping on humanitarian grounds from Odessa?
Surely Odessa is now key to WW3 by proxy?
-
WW3? Hmmmm......have you taken your pills tonight?

;D Yes but some dropped on the floor as usual. Bet you have the same problem!
Might be difficult as Ukraine mined the sea. Plus maybe the EU will facilitate getting the grain crop out via Bulgaria and Romania. Cost more but cereal will cos5 us all more anyway.

You should contact EU representatives, I'm sure they haven't thought of that.

The Bosphorus is currently closed to all military shipping. AIUI it's some sort of international shipping 'right of way' and if Turkey closes it, it has to close it to everyone equally - though I don't know if that applies to Turkey itself. Therefore getting NATO military shipping into the Black Sea is currently impossible and if the straights were opened, then they would also have to be opened to Russian military shipping too which would allow Russia to replace the Moskva in the Black Sea - not something that would be in Ukrainian interests.

While I don't think Putin would have the guts, or the desire, for military escalation, I think it's best we don't test my theory. The world is more troubled today than I have ever known it, even during the Cuban missile crisis. There are potential flashpoints everywhere, Iran/Israel, China/Taiwan, India/Pakistan, as well as the Ukraine. UK/Europe has the potential to get fairly nasty as well. Africa is a basket case and Yemen is dragging on forever.
No....definitely don't rock the boat any more than is absolutely necessary.
Get ready for the annual famine relief ads on telly, probably made worse this year by the situation in Ukraine. Only, no matter how much money is donated, if there's no grain to buy......

So you just let a bully keep n bullying?
Up to 400 million poorer people will go hungry. Fertliser is 2 or 3 times more so food costs go up or yields down
At least the EU have agreed sixth round of sanctions today. Shame they weren’t done earlier, ditto by other nations.

Ah yes the great EU Russian oil embargo, in which Hungary has an exemption, so can carry on buying discounted oil from Russia, while all the other EU countries have to buy theirs from elsewhere at global prices. ::)
So Hungary has negotiated itself a competitive advantage. So much for the level play field and integrity of the single market hey? ??? :-X
Meanwhile a packet of Walkers Beef n Onion crisps going from Leicester to a pub or corner shop in Belfast is a dire threat to the Single Market and is effectively verboten! ! ::)
You really couldn't make it up! ;D

Fair comment but in fairness by the end of 2022 it will be over 90%.
A mere bagatelle , of course compared to gas!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as I understand it the EU embargo only applies to shipped oil? And overland/pipeline supplies are unaffected? ??? :-\

Minor detail !
