Hmmm. ::)

Hmmm.
Thinking of somewhere different for your holibobs?

The Rwandans were just as keen on the idea as Bozzle.

Probably more due to the hundreds of millions of UK taxpayers £££££ they plan to trouser, rather than any altruistic desire to help poor vulnerable refugees. :)

Sounds like the passenger load factors on HMG's new Boscombe Down (Ryanair would call it "Stonehenge East" or "Sailsbury North") to Kigali route may be lower than they expected/hoped. I wonder if I/you could get a cheap flight to help them fill the seats.

From HMG? ;D

He'll be OK once he's got the ferry to Calais and bought a small boat to come back. Then the Rwanda flight will be free, as long as those pesky human-rights activist lawyers keep quiet.

I'll take my chances on Staff Travel standby thanks :D

This idea was probably never going to fly(excuse the pun) :-X
It seems the British judicial system said 'all system go' fasten your safety belts, but some 'European bod' decided otherwise. ::)

Presumably shooting them mid channel is still off the table :-\
Perhaps we could issue them French passports...
-
Surprising how many think that the ECHR is part of the EU. :)
-
The answer is simple. Every time a dinghy lands on the south coast, the RAF drop a few bombs on Paris. That would concentrate a few minds. :)

Apparently, there wasn't even a proper hearing in the courthouse, but it was an 'after hours' judge in Brussels made the decision.
Makes you wonder whether he/she had all the facts at hand and even though the ECHR isn't part of the EU, you can bet your bottom Euro that they are all European federalist fanatics still pissed about Brexit and happy to give the Brits a kicking! ::)

Who shall remain nameless.
I hope it wasn't the cleaner who answered the phone by mistake... :D

The ECHR was formed after WW2 for good reasons and with good intentions. It has now become something else and from a UK point of view, at least, has outlived its usefulness.
We should leave its jurisdiction asap imo.
-
11000+ have come across the english channel so far this year. Double what it was this time last year. FFS we cannot keep going like this, but the dogooders were on the radio this morning saying we need them! Meanwhile we will be paying for them staying in 4* hotels for years. Can't these people understand what is going on and how much it costs? Obviously not! >:( >:(

1949, I think.
It was of it's time. Not sure it it relevant today. It does seem to emasculate us. :-X

Lot of people who make judgements and decisions there done even have any legal qualifications, although the common assumtion is that they are actual judges.
They are known as Jurisrs, but in reality are suitably left wing political activists.
Imo the problem with the so called "do gooders" in this country is that they are people who have had the "benefit" of a University education, and have therefore been educated to hate their own country.
Education, education, education, is where the root of the problems in this country.

And they won't sling bags for £25k a year, so of no use as a quick fix, even if you could reference them :-X
-
We still have to listen to the EU laws what the Fk have we got to do to get away from them and have our own laws? We need Nigel back badly he will fight our corner.

You know what you are talking about DG! I used to work in Terminal 3 Heathrow technical side of it. It was the same then! They just did not have the (any or interest) knowledge of anything. Used to rile me up big time! :-\ :( :(

The European Court of Human Rights isn't the same as EU law. The court was setup to give the final judgement on interpreting the European Convention of Human Rights. Which pre-dates the EU and is a treaty we are still signed up to.

Presumably a hangover from the fallout of the first and second World Wars :-\
A hotel in Rwanda has to be better than sleeping rough in French France, which doesn't make it much of a deterrent though...

What kind of over educated liberal monster uses facts instead of emotions, rumours and dogma? You should be ashamed of yourself :-X
As for Nigel, what use would he be? Again? His whole schtick was out of the EU, with nothing about how to deal with afterwards. Which is a lesson Boris took to heart.
The whole dump them in Rwanda is a distraction from the bunch of incompetent, leaderless, directionless suck-ups we're saddled with as a government.
-
Mm, have you got an alternative? Nigel has proven himself many times standing up for UK, the country is overflowing with illegal migrants fact, I have no trouble with folk needing asylum etc but I don’t think welcoming dinghies full of unknowns to British soil is a particularly safe idea.

Yes....as I said from the 1949-52 period, which was the time of Attlee and Churchill.
Some government ministers are saying the 'European advice' is advisory only, and the UK can disregard it if we choose to....which we should.
Not sure how true this is.
The whole episode is a complete clusterf*uck. :-X

Yes and there's a judicial review next month to decide whether the whole Rwanda policy is even legal or not. ::)
I think we can guess what the unelected liberal judges will decide. :-X
The Govt should have legislated, but even if they managed to get it through the Commons, they'd have to contend with the unelected LimpDem/Liebour dominated Lords. :-\

AIUI ECtHR rulings aren't themselves binding, and there is no enforcement or punishment. However, parliament - the UK parliament - passed a law which incorporates the ECHR rulings into UK law - The Human Rights Act 1998 - https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1998/42/contents. So parliament has decided that the UK must abide by ECtHR rulings. Parliament could repeal or amend The HRA1998, but so far haven't dared.

And AIUI that's the point of the ECtHR ruling - these deportations shouldn't happen until all legal process has been exhausted. If the Judicial review rules that the policy is unlawful, then the deportations won't happen. If it rules they are lawful then that impediment will fall away.
I don't believe for one minute that the Govt thought they'd get away with this policy without it being challenged in the courts. The timing is strange though - it's almost as if there was some important by-election next week and the Govt are looking to stir up their supporters with faux outrage. ::)
-
What legal process?
Surely, to enter a sovereign nation illegally (regardless of reason*) warrants a swift and robust deportation ???
If a person is genuinely seeking refuge, then there are processes to be followed and should be sought at an embassy or consulate or at the first safe place.
To enter illegally and then try to claim asylum should render the asylum request null and void. Especially if the person has passed through several safe places to reach the UK.
*Being trafficked would be one such reason, but these tend not to arrive en masse in a small boat.
-
What legal process?
The process to deport illegal imigrants/asylum seekers to Rwanda is an idea dreamt up by the Government. It has not been approved by Parliament. The legal process rules on laws which have been passed by parliament. Parliament is sovereign, not the Government.
So the Judicial Review will decide whether the Govt has the legal right to do what they are wanting to do. If they don't then they can't. The Government is subject to all the laws that Parliament has passed, and the Govt can't change those laws without the approval of Parliament.

Refugees are not (and I don't believe ever have been) required by any law to seek asylum in the first safe country that they enter/pass through. :y

Well that's clearly something to be addressed.

Yes, and when you look at it in that light, the ECHR's ruling seems quite sensible. What's the point in deporting people to Rwanda, when you'll have to bring them back when the Judicial Review decrees that the policy is unlawful. Which is quite likely. ::)
