Title: Front caliper mounting bolt size
Post by: GastronomicKleptomaniac on 04 August 2022, 20:10:30
Having just had a brown trouser moment, I'm now in need of a front caliper mounting bolt.

What size are they, thread and length?

And anywhere in Norfolk/ Suffolk recommended to get a new one tomorrow? If a standard size then I can head to Screwfix but I'd prefer a fastener shop...

No, I'm not happy, I don't know if I've left it loose or if something has gone wrong. Either way I'll be crawling about check every single bolt tomorrow. Live and learn!

Update - having searched the forum I've found the answer is M12x40mm.

State of underpants... Still questionable.

Most of these sort of bolts are "metric fine" thread on Vauxhalls. That's not the normal thread, and you'll be lucky if your local bolt shop carries them.

Did a similar thing on my first Granada. Forgot to bend a lock tab back over.

Braking for a roundabout, loud clunk and sudden loss of brakes on one side later...

No harm, no foul :y

Suffice to say the local constabulary will be getting some cakes as a thank you for helping us get it clear of the dual carriageway... :y

The M12 x 40 screws are standard metric pitch, ie 1.75mm. Perhaps you didn't re-torque the missing bolt when last refitted?

I don't think there's any "perhaps" about it.

I mean even after 5 years, MrsGK wouldn't stoop to that level of sabotage... I don't.. think...
