Title: Just got my Haynes for.......
Post by: STMO123 on 07 December 2006, 19:54:42
.......the wifes MGZT. Its just been published, had it on order since april.

So, I thought, first job to look at........cambelt. Shock horror :o :o

To renew the timing BELTS( there are two), you have to remove: deep breath....

Right hand engine mount
Alternator
Power steering pump
Oil cooler
Air conditioning compressor
Lots of other 'bits'
Drain engine oil
Remove dipstick tube

Job for the garage methinks :'(

Yup, great little car, great chassis, let down by poor build quality and poor marketing.

sounds like a mission STMO that one... although as TB says it seams just time consuming... think you need help really as its not a one-man job.

Any problem getting hold of the parts for these? I imagine a fair few compays who supplied Rover/MG have gone under...

On the contrary, people are now forced to use non-franchised garages, who will use pattern parts, so this will have helped many...

The companies who supplied Rover will still be supplying Landrover and BMW, so it probably only affected a handful of companies...

Its actualy a poor chassis (25) but, we wont go into that right now....

Full aircon re-gas then if the compressor has to come off.

I have to say that I would never leave a car for 90K miles before changing a rubber belt....

Actually, I embellished it a little bit :-[

Oil cooler, compressor and power steering pump unbolted but hoses left connected.

So...when yer gonna do it Mark? ;D

Good, coz its a reasonable chassis in its original form (softened up later) for a small family car (ie Focus size).  Easily out handles a Focus (outperforms it as well (1.6))....
