Morgan owners are a breed apart.

Was he wearing an old jacket with leather patches on the elbows, like my old geography teacher? :)

The age probably doesn't matter, given I've spent a lot of the summer underneath a far more recent model, and its built in exactly the same way as they were 100 years ago.  Only now, they usually have 4 wheels.

Like most low-production specialist cars now, they mostly use bonded aluminium chassis. There's a small amount of ash framing to support the body which is unusual.

I'm sure I've read that a towbar cannot be used on a Morgan, if that's true his insurance would be compromised, especially when you look at the design of rear end.

Have Morgan progressed to bigger, SUV, models?

My daughter has just ordered from an MG dealership a big SUV, with all the extras.  I remember when we loved the sports MG’s, in all their simple glory.  By coincidence, out side my doctors the day before an old geezer, of about 90, drove up in a pre1963 MG Midget.  What a blast from the past that was! ;D

The SUV reflects nothing of that basic heritage, apart from the MG badge. It is impressive though for the price :D ;)

Moving to an SUV is never progress, nor is it conducive to it. ;).

Loads of them around our area the garage that sells them has got the best reputation in our area, one model looks very similar to a VW Passat and our local taxi company has two estate versions as part of their fleet. Quite a few EV models available as well. I think that the right to the MG name was acquired for a small cost.

It is when it is a Mobility car and costs an upfront deposit, plus a monthly benefit deduction, for a severely autistic child.  She needs to move people and support items around in it, and a standard 5 seater car is not up to the job.

The Vauxhall Grandland X that she has currently requires an upfront deposit way above that for the MG, and has not got the specification of the latter.  So the MG SUV is the best choice for her needs, and I must say is nice to sit in with a the good spec. ;)

Beggars cannot be choosers. :D

Don't beg then.

It might be French, but the rebadged Pug is a significantly better prospect than the rebadged Chinesey tat. A damn sight safer in a prang too I shouldn't wonder.

And the NG EVs have a battery window of about 40%.

But the Mobility Scheme, quite rightly, only offers certain models from each manufacturer, plus with many at advance deposit levels well beyond what is affordable to many people.  So, as I said, beggars cannot be choosers, and anyway my daughter is delighted with whatever she can get.  She is not in a position to be choosy, and will get what she can, British, American, German, Chinese, or whatever……. ::) :P ;)

Not been in a Chinky MG so can't comment.  But spent the best part of a week in a 3008/Grandland, and that doesn't set the bar very high, unless you are dazzled by gimmicky gizmo dashboards with too much going on....

My previous post applies :D ;)

She will only keep the car for 3 years, subject to new car availability which currently is an issue, so will enjoy whatever.  I have sat in the MG and looked around it, checking the spec.  It is good for the price, and will do the job :)

That's one of the reasons why there is a waiting list for an MG5 - cab drivers love them, and the finances make buying anything else an expensive proposition. Just like the Skoda Octavia twenty years ago.

There are almost as many MG3s around here as Dusters and Skoda Fabia/Rapids. Next on the list are Kia/Hyundai i30s. Not everybody is prepared to pay at least 30% extra for a load of marketing and pretentious design from snooty dealers. Or the ghastly racket made by the C63 at the bottom of the road.

And that immediately goes to the bottom of the list if the car isn't reliable, and can't be repaired quickly. They don't mind paying for a car that can be relied on for all of that, but prefer not to. Which is why the local owner/drivers are moving from Toyota Prius to MG5s

If it makes financial sense to them why not, got to admit I preferred being run about in that instead of some old Merc on its last legs.

Given a choice on Holibobs, I try to use the old Mercedes over the Priuses etc because their drivers aren't trying to impress anyone.

Unless you were having a pop about the Alabama Mumsybus, which is newer than your Range Rover. But then, I don't choose my cars by how they make my dick feel.  ;D

 ;D ;How true!

When I was a kid I loved the Austin 7’s, Baby Austin’s, still going around in the late 1950’s.  They were so cute.

A few years back I eventually had the opportunity to get in one.  How that cuteness was ever so small! ;D  ;)

I think your average person was much shorter back in the day.....with a MUCH smaller circumference. ;D

I read recently that the average working class British soldier was only 5' 5" tall during the 1914-18 war, and not particularly healthy because of poverty.
