Post by: countrywoman on 09 October 2022, 10:29:35
Haynes says you cant reuse rod bolts, what do you all think(thats if anyone here has rebuilt an x30xe). Only need 2 and I bet you have to buy a full set from GM.

When I changed the wishbones, and track rods on the wifes car. I got new bolts and nuts. They weren't dear. The bolts to hold the ball joint on wishbone to hub were about £4 each on ebay for genuine bolt, the nuts were not much more each. (Think it was Vauxhall superstore, I got them from). I was glad I did, as the original nut was siezed so just cut it off).

I believe countrywoman is talking about the con rod bolts.As I've never rebuilt one of these engines I can't say for sure if the bolts are single use or not but for such a critical part I think I'd replace with new to be on the safe side.

@countrywoman
Do you mean the cylinder head bolts?

No, will fit new headbolts. It's fitting a s/h conrod so looks like I will need new bolts due to them being of the stretch type.
