One of our log burners grates broke in half. The model is now obsolete. The best the company could offer is a current model BUT it has two one inch lugs to remove which is my job.
I have a decent Bosch large angle grinder. Will a premium” diamante”? metal cutting disc do the job? Any tips? Wet the job? Oil it?

A decent grinder and blade should chop through it easily enough. I was a Fettler / trimmer in a cast iron foundry for several years.
Never needed water or oil to help cut it. Just a decent grinder with the right blade attached.

Basic metal cutting discs will do the job. As always, use the thin ones.
I would probably use a hacksaw......

You must be a masochist. ;D

For a pair of small lugs? By the time you've found the grinder, changed the disc for a known good one, cut the lugs off, smoothed the cuts and cleaned up all the iron dust, hacksawing them off often looks like a good option. And you won't be snorting black snot for the rest of the day :y

No, I will use an angle grinder and protective gear. Got plenty of that.
Thanks.

.... and you get nice red coloured sparks.
Can you not get your old grate welded back together? Heat it up & use cast rods :-\

Job done. Quite easy thanks.
Fitting it isn’t going to be so easy. Just like the heater matrix on a car, the grate appears to be the first item fitted on the production line. So I have left that for a morning task. Nowadays, I seem to have more energy in a morning.
