I've been with this lot for years and whenever I've had to call them out they've arrived promptly and I've had no complaints.  :y

The only thing to be aware of is that although the premium is cheap, you pay a £40 excess if you call them out.

I am now an AA member (well, in a couple of days, when the RAC runs out), and got a new member deal.  I thought the government had banned discounted deals for new insurance policies now? Surely breakdown cover is an insurance policy?

Personally, I couldn't care less, as the legislation is to assist the gormless, so I'd always shop around anyway.

Skrunts, ring them, pick the "I want to leave the AA" option, and see what they offer you.  You should be able to get close to the new member option.

I use them for euro trips :)

Just done a quote for me and her as personal members, with £40 excess, and about £20 cheaper than AA (with no excess).  Without excess, its more than I paid for AA,  so I'll let the AA one start and re-evaluate in a year :y

Not against their modest excess, so could work for us.  But I can't rely on RAC-esque apathy if she breaks down on the M40 on the way to work, and I'm staying away...

Just Googled that Skruntie. I can see why you pay a hellova lot more than a standard breakdown cover. Your renewal still seems a total ripoff compared to what new customers pay though. Have you tried to get them to reduce the premium to keep you on board?

The wierd thing is adding the Garage cover didnt add to the overall cost.

I think they are trying to recover the loss of the batteries they fitted as the Garage cover as them all I paid was the 1st £35, but since I bought the NOCO there have been no call outs for flat batteries (and the NOCO seems to have proved that replacement batteries  replacent was not requiered)

Funny you should mention this, Skruntie. A NOCO GB 40 arrived today from Amazon as the RAC didn't even pick up the phone let alone actually come out.

They are totally useless. :-\

I managed to get a decent deal with the AA this year, for both of us as personal members, only a few quid more than ResueMyCar.

But as said, will defo consider them in a years time when the AA will likely want a gazillion quid,....

As the last 2 times I've used the RAC I've struggled to get through in a sensible timeframe - "We are extremely busy today, use online, blah blah" for about 30+ minutes every call* - I've been randomly calling their number every couple of days.  And its always the same message.  So they know they have more customers than they can deal with. Idiots.

*The last breakdown, because I'd learnt that the RAC need constant poking to get anything done, as soon as I'd hung up, I was immediately calling them again, knowing it would take 30mins to get a response.  I have to praise Apple, the iPhone 13 Pro battery was truly staggering that day.

Should add, if it comes through, there is just shy of £40 cashback showing as pending, so that would have brought my joint AA membership down to about a third of a tank of lorry juice.

Cheapest fuel i've seen in recent months is here:-

https://www.darobertsfuels.co.uk/

So if your ever around Whitchurch and need fuel i'd check them out, as long as you don't mind queuing.

Price as of 20/12 were £1.33.9 for Petrol and £158.9 for Diesel

Still touching on £1.80 for non flammable stuff here in Brackleyshire.  Tesco claim to have it cheaper, but the diesel pumps have been out of action for weeks.  And BP probably want a couple of quid, but I think I'm still banned for being a little too honest with the scottish idiot in there...

That might possibly been the start of the dispute.

I feel I did my civil duty at the BP, by regularly providing a good layer of rubber in the forecourt.  Especially when they useless scottish excuse for a wankstain never told you the LPG wasn't available/working, and let you stand there for 10mins trying, before going over to the window he was looking out of to ask him if he would be so kind as to authorise the pump.

Nope, it was a good 2 or 3 minute dressing down of how I didn't want a Wild Bean Coffee, just some oppsing fuel.  It is a fuel station, after all.

I once had my insurance with the AA & recovery gold membership. at the time I worked in Germany doing 6wks on & 2wks at home, but because the green card situ AA  advised me to take german car insurance also german AA cover of which I did. all the 3 migs ive owned were covered by aa breakdown & two insured through AA , when i bought my present car it came with
3yrs rac breakdown cover but that finished end of august . now back with the AA
