Title: facebook scam
Post by: raywilb on 21 January 2023, 21:41:41
has anyone heard of this scam. an old friend will contact you via facebook & after the niceties tells you that they received a large sum of money from the DHHS that he never had to pay back, In his case it was £80,000. He also told me that he saw my name on the beneficiary list & sent me a link to contact the agent . A person called Susan C Fitgerald . he kept inquiring if I,d contacted her. My suspicions made me think some thing was amiss, but I did contact her. ( I couldn.t contact by  for her via ordinary ways, I had to use the F.B link)  she replied almost immediately asking for full name, address, email & contact number. after a very short time I was told that the beneficiary list & I too was going to receive £80k. Eventually I was asked to go to a store & purchase an Apple gift card for the sum of £200 & contact her when I have it. Needless to say ive not done that now I am getting messages telling me Fedex have the money in a box & it will be delivered 4hrs after they have the details off the apple card which is supposed to be for stamp duty, the D.H.H.S stands for dept .health human sources which i have found out its an american benefit source.

Are you and Skuntie related/share a common interwebs address  ::)

This has total and utter horseshit printed all over the box it came in ;D

Another reason not to 'do' social media.

Bet you were disappointed that there was no Nigerian princess ;D

And, given that the department that is claimed to be dishing out all this nonsense is run by a Democrat, it wouldn't surprise me if they were actually behind the scam...

After all, if you can get 20,000 morons to pay you $200 in Apple gift cards, that's $4,000,000 back into your department budget... 🤔

See my other post ;)

But these scams are pretty easy to drive the Evergreen Ever Given through. Sideways.

If you fall for it, then you deserve to lose $200.

And if it arrives via someone you haven't heard from for years, ask yourself why you haven't spoken since Year 8 and if you would trust them to have your back in a bar fight. If you can't positively answer either, then ignore them.

These scams only work because people are either stupid or greedy. These traits are not mutually exclusive.

I sent £50 off to a long-lost Nigerian cousin, fifteen times removed on my great grandmother's side, because he couldn't afford to take his wife to the doctor. I was rewarded with a picture of her, completely naked and, obviously, fully recovered. Money well spent  :)

Couldn't be bothered to read any posts, but anyone stupid enough to ever sign up for Facebook is effectively pulling their pants down and asking the whole Internet to butt rape them.

If you have been stupid enough, de-friend every contact and mark yourself fully private, and change all details in your profile.  Any friends of friends of friends of friends of friends etc who has any public posts mean all your private details and posts are publicly available, and has already been harvested by scammers, advertisers, and the scum of the universe.

I have little sympathy for most of those who get scammed, but the scum who prey on elderly and generally vulnerable people to scam them should be strung up by their nuts and left for the vultures.

There has been a lot on the BBC recently about "romance scams" simply unbelievable how some men & women hand out large sums of cash to people they've never met in the flesh.
