Title: Another laptop question
Post by: JamesV6CDX on 11 September 2008, 19:17:00
I have an old Dell 600, facotry shipped with XP.

Don't ask me how but I lost the hard drive. And Caddy.

I've got another caddy, but cannot get a drive. Tried ebay - timewasters for the most.

Just wondering, if anyone has a laptop 2.5" HDD I could pur-chase from you? Only needs to be about 10gig or so, it's purely for bathtime forum browsing :y

Only problem is mate, I'm not sure a larger one (which is all I could get?) would be recognised by the BIOS...

Lol, I run it off my 12V inverter, I don't fancy having mains in the bathroom :y

Kev - I may need to get home a bit earlier, if I don't make it, would you pop in the post for me? :) I'll give you whatever you want for it / postage.

Don't suppose you've got anywhere with the Halfrauds device? ::)

Ahh, been meaning to mention that. Unfortunately the battery is defying all attempts to charge it at the moment. I think it needs a new battery, unfortunately. It's a common size and type, though, so that's an option if you want to resurrect it? They appear to be in the region of 45 quid each, although if you know someone who services UPSs it might be worth a chat with them. ::)

.. and assuming they've used the correct grade of filter capacitors in the cheap chinese power supply everything will be fine... :-/

In fact, scratch that. they won't have bothered with a filter at all. >:(

I used to spend thousands with them - I lost interest in PCs when I work with them all day, and got into cars  ::)

I ended up with a 20GB laptop drive by sticking a 100GB into a PVR, ask Jaime what size HDD his mothers Pace Twin has.

From memory I have a couple - either 6G or 20G. You can have one if you want it. I'll just chuck it in the post.

CCL pretty good too for PC bits usually shop there as only 5 mins from home so any probs with stuff just take it back & get it exchanged (never had a prob with em they really top class aftersales service )

http://www.cclonline.com/product-categories.asp?category_id=229

Used Ebuyer a lot too, once again never had probs with them either and super fast delivery even with cheapest one !

Used to use CCL a fair bit when I used to build and sell PCs.  Can't remember what it was, but some reason I stopped using them  :-/
