One of the Archbishop of Canterbury's more important functions is to be the government's senior advisor on morality and call them out when they slip. That's largely why all the Lords Spiritual are still there.
The function of an upper house in any democracy is to act as a brake on the main one, and is why each house is always selected in different ways. Like much of the British political system, it's a deliberate mess and is overdue modernising. That's not going to happen so close to the coronation which is a fundamental part of the mess.

He has demonstrated this almost every time he has opened his mouth over the years.
The days of the Church of England being the Tory party at prayer are long gone.
Thats no bad thing, but it now seems to be the Socialist workers party at prayer, which is a very bad thing indeed.
