Title: 20 Years Ago
Post by: Lizzie Zoom on 25 June 2023, 12:10:39
A sad anniversary today.

Tha last Omega was built 20 years ago today, the 25th June 2003. :'( :'( :'(

Mine was built in the month before, on the 14th May 2003, but not registered until the 1st September of that year.

At the moment, still going strong! 8) 8) :D ;)

My last MV6 2.6 rolled off the production line in June 2002......but she was not registered until late 2003.

I have a mental image of the old girl up to her axles in a muddy field for 18 months, like many BL cars from the seventies.

Mine was built in June 2003 and registered in September 2004.

TVP had the foresight to place a bulk order just before production closed.

In a car park in Bicester probably  ;D

Joking aside, the only rusty bits on it really were the tailgate by the rear wiper trim and the rear arches. Rest of it held up pretty well considering its use/mileage :y

Mine was registered 20-09-2001  no visible rust when I purchased it & none when I sold it probably the best value for money vehicle that I've ever owned.

I bought a brand new Aste GTE in 84 and put it on the road 1st august.

But I rekxon that must have been stood for quite a while asis had 2 x A4 pages of faults with including rust, so sold it after 8 months and bought a new Sylvia turbo instead.

How old where you then, Skruntie?

Would have cost a pretty penny to insure if you were young.

My GTE (1990, I bought it when it was a year old in 1991) was showing quite a lot of body rust by 1992....

I sold it after a year, as it was too much hassle.  Couldn't leave it anywhere without some scrote having a go at it.  Well, that and the 3 grand renewal on insurance ;D

 Three grand......Clucking bell..... :o :o :o :o

I  pay about 10% of that to insure the little Mexican, but then I'm probably a couple of years older than you were in 1991. ::) ::) :P

Born in 61. Car was B Reg (Aug 1st reg) so I must have been 23.

Insurance was £365, so a £1 a day to insure.

Bonus was I got a 7.5% discount and paid £6520.20 for it.

Final straw was after filling with petrol I went to start the car, turned the ignition and the wireing loom under the bonnet went up in smoke. >:(

With in a week I did a part ex, got a brand new Sylvia, and got £6500 alowed on the GTE 8 months old with 8K on the clock.

Wish I still had the Sylvia, it handled so well. ::)

2 new cars in the space of 8m months, wish I never bought the Astra, made me realise how mush I hate FWD and the brakes with the servo on the passenger side didnt help the brake performance.

I still had my boyish good looks.

I used to average about 2 - 3 tugs a week from the old bill as well, which was another reason for getting shot.  A lot of them involved having to show documents at the local cop shop, much to the amusement of the geezer behind the desk....
