Title: V6 Exhaust gaskets?
Post by: Jim82 on 04 July 2023, 14:14:03
I've bought a replacement cat-back exhaust system from Poland and have booked it in for fitting at my local garage. They asked if I have all the gaskets.... Should there be gaskets between the catalysts and the mid sections? If so, where's the best place to find them?

Many thanks!

Any local motor factors will have what you need for a couple of quid each. If you can't take an old one to match, then you need to know the distance between the mounting holes, and the pipe size. Or you could trace around one of the flanges on your new system.

there are NO gaskets between the CAT out flanges and mid section IN flanges on a V6  :-\
only gaskets are manifold to CAT

No sealant of any kind is needed either!

True, and when the parts both brand new and OE that's not a problem.

But 20years later when you're fitting a £100 system to cat flanges that are badly rusted, some form of additional sealing might be a good idea. I tend to use it because I hate having to go back and fix an avoidable problem.

I can't say I've ever encountered a problem with the V6 exhaust flanges. A good clean up before fitting (with no RTV or horrible exhaust paste) and I've always had a good gas tight seal. If the cat flanges are that badly corroded so there's not much good metal left, then obviously a different approach is needed.
