.....this is fickin mental.
As it says in the article, it's not about depreciation, it's about what you would have pave paid for a certain model, of a certain age and a certain mileage in January, and what that same model would cost you now.

See quite a few EVs round here now mainly ,Kia Hyundai & MG personally I wouldn't have one if it was free.
-
I thought you said you were quite impressed by the MG something or other ???
-
Good. Chinese crap!
Remember when we “ hated “ Japanese crap”? Different now though as the world polarises into buy Chinese or not.

Saw an advert about how the global shipping industry is a mahoosive contribution to climate change, and that the solution is to build more energy efficient ships powered by wind or hydrogen or solar power...
Er no, how about not transporting ship loads of crap around the world to begin with. ???

....
Well, that's novel. ;D
That's what I thought too ..... we have wind powered ships 100s of years ago! ;D ;D
-
And think how much the extra time will add to the price of goods.
They're going about it all arse backwards.
Trying to solve the wrong problems.
Stop buying cheap, unreliable shit from China and yo won't have to worry about global shipping emissions. Not to mention all the other socioeconomic benefits that go along with such a choice.

It would most likely be a square one. :D
Opti's car would have taken even longer to arrive as well.

Ha ha yes, I imagine Lord Optis conversation with BMW dealer would have gone something like this....
LO: Hello, just phoning to see if my car has arrived at your dealership yet?
BMW: Oh yes let me check... tippity tap of keyboard.... No M'Lud it's not here yet.
LO: When are you expecting it to arrive then?
BMW: Well M'lud it's very much dependent on the weather these days you see. Hmm let's see.... tippity tap of keyboard... Oh that's bad luck! It looks as though it's becalmed in the doldrums off the Azores and it's been there a few days....
LO: Well how much longer will it be there?
BMW: Difficult to say M'lud, let's see what the Met Office say.... tippity tap of keyboard... Well it looks as though there will be little or no wind for another 2 or 3 weeks, but then there should be an anticyclone making it's way across the Atlantic which should push it up to Southampton. Um ..... Can I remind you M'lud of the extra climate surcharge payable in the event of a becalming event resulting in late delivery which will be added to your final payment?
LO: Sigh...

£1000 deposit paid 19th May 2022
Balance paid and car arrived 9th June 2023.
So about 13 months. :-X
When I left the deposit they estimated 3-5 months. ;D
Still, she is here now and used cars on Autotrader are being advertised for anything up to £8000 more than I paid. I reckon I could keep her for a 12-18 months and not make a loss. :y

Chatting with my mate from Manchester about street charging as he hasn't got a drive, and we both agreed, that, has no-one thought about the 'mouth breathers' as he calls them, young yobbo's up to no good, unplugging the chargers in the street, just for a laugh. !!

Someone might correct me, Tony, but I think the cables lock in position. They'd certainly find a way to cause mischief and inconvenience though.

A well insulated pair of cutters perhaps? :)
-
I didn't think they locked in position, Steve. Not got one so wouldn't really know. All I see is vids or ads where people just plug the charger into the car and that's it. Thought it was just a pop it in, leave it, then pop it out. I had this vision of people in a street coming out to go to work, and finding the charging piece laying on the ground at a car with a flat battery. :(
-
Saw on local TV last night charging points that lower in & out of the driveway/pavement, all looks very flash but once they get clogged up by all the shit that will collect in there then what ? And yes the charging cable is still completely exposed all ready to be vandalised.
-
Just been doing a bit of reading on the subject, and it appears it depends what socket you have....in the past it was possible to disconnect someone whilst charging, but I would imagine technology has come on since then.

From 'Wepoweryourcar':
EV charging cables are being targeted by thieves selling the copper content for scrap or listing the cables on the second-hand market through platforms such as eBay or Facebook Marketplace.
Electric car manufacturers are aware of the risk of charging cable theft, and most EVs have locking mechanisms to secure the charging cable while the vehicle is charging unattended. However, these mechanisms are not always foolproof.
As such, electric vehicle drivers have been looking for additional methods to prevent their charging cables from being stolen.

Sleep in the car while it's charging with a shotgun on the passenger seat.

Sleep in the car while it's charging with a shotgun on the passenger seat.
But that would be illegal to protect your own property from thieving scumbags :o
there was a time when stealing was illegal ,police don't bother with that sort of crime anymore though :(

They like to police 'hurty words' these days. They are very good at it.
It is even worse in Scotland where the ginger dwarf from the north wanted to make 'hurty words' illegal even in our own homes.
Humza Useless is cut from the same cloth.

They didn't used to investigate hurty words but, now they've said sorry, it's all ok

All I'd have to say is that I have "mental health issues" and they'd probably let me off lightly, that seems to be the most popular option at present..

Ms Cressida Dick not Mrs Dick.
Merely an observation. ::) ::)
