My omega has decided it doesn’t want to drive in any other gears than first or reverse, it will change up but then slips with no drive in all other gears, I’ve checked and topped up the fluid it look nearly a litre but it has made no difference at all. Does anyone have any ideas what’s wrong with it please? 2003 3.2 MV6.

Sorry, I've only just seen your message.
If you've topped up the fluid to the right level and it's still slipping and banging etc, then it's goosed. Time for a new (to you) AR35.... (or a very expensive overhaul job) :y

Yeah, sounds familiar. Can't remember how many boxes I screwed on Project TB2, but ultimately all of the AR25's ended up with just neutrals.
Omega autoboxes were plentiful at the time, not so sure about now.

Hard to get hold of a good one now and you won't know if it's good until you've fitted it and driven it :(

I can remember struggling to get rid of them. And V6 engines I could hardly give away.

Thing is it was ok when I parked it in the evening I didn’t use it for about a week and it was like that the next time I got in it.

Sounds like it could be an electrical fault, Rae, but it's no good asking people who can't look at it. I'm sure you must have an auto gearbox specialist near you who can diagnose it.

Does the LED light up next to the gear you select correctly ?
do you have a code reader that can read the auto box codes ? better still LIVE DATA :-\
Did you cycle the shifter through all gears etc after topping it up and re-check the level running ?
after a "week" of standing m the torque converter would have drained ,IIRC that's about 3 ltr :-\
maybe re-check the level following the OOF guide for fluid change with it warm :-\
I know VERY LITTLE about the "auto gear box" because I'm a God fearing, churchgoer and the "auto box gubbings" is the work of the Devil himself >:D

You must get through a lot of Viagra tablets to do the braking :o
or do you use the gears and clutch to control speed ,as GOD intended :D

Yes, i must admit that i enjoy driving my manual Vectra when traffic conditions allow. ;)

When mine packed up, it would slip in 2nd and 3rd - seemed like it wasn't changing up, but what I think happens is the clutches between 2nd and 3rd wear out. Pulling away (in first) would be Ok, but after that it was pot luck how much drive you would get with the engine revs not really relating to speed. When it changed into 4th things were Ok again, but there would be a noticible clunk/thud as 4th gear engaged. Things were worse on a cold engine/gearbox and generally Ok on a warm engine/gearbox and for a while I convinced myself that it was just the gearbox ECU holding onto revs whilst the oil warmed up. There may have been a bit of that, but not really the cause.
I think by the time you notice things are going wrong the damage has been done, and no amount of changing fluid or filters will fix it.
There are a few videos on Youtube of people reconditioning them. I think the US equivalent is something like GM4L60. Doesn't look too difficult, but you've got to have the time and be able to get the spare parts. So easier to buy a spare if you can find one.

have you tried anything other than topping it up ?
fault codes etc as per my previous post ?
Manual conversion ?

No Dave I think it’s time for it to go it needs a new front screen and rear shocks too although it has about 8 months mot on it.

Hello Raeturbo I know how you feel I had a fail on my mot and I need some welding done and my handbreak has gone haywire.I will see what the quote for repairs is and then decide what to do.It is a shame that the omegas are heading for the scrap yard.

Even if you have to replace all the consumable H/B parts(shoes, cable, discs, pads etc) that's going to cost less than just the labour to change a gearbox. And these gearboxes are now at the point where only a full rebuild is likely to be cost effective.

I was thinking Dolly might sh!t herself in the Evo :D
at least that's only brown marbles/pellets to collect :)

Clean the selector switch, If your going to change fluid, iirc including dropping sumps, blowing out cooler, and cleaning filters,(yes you can clean them,) it takes 8L, of fluid, I used Shell spirax,(formally Donax) it's a HD dex3/4 transmission fluid for Commercial/Tractors.
Failing that there's a thrust washer that breaks, there is a guide on replacement.
