Hi all...long time no see !!!
I have to fit a new crank sensor on my 2003 2.6. I am not sure if I have been sent the one I ordered. The cable length, including the plug is about twenty five and a half inches long, is this correct.
I have got the scuttle off, is there anything else that needs to come off. I think I have found the connector, but its a sod to get at. What is the pipe at the rear right of the plenum that runs round over where the connector is. Is it safe to take that off, or is it a no no.

Hi Tony, good to hear from you. No need to remove anything else. The crank sensor multi-plug slides on to a metal bracket but I doubt that many get put back on the bracket. I took mine off the bracket, turned it around so that it faced forwards and routed the new cable down the passenger side inner wing, through the brake pipes on he inner wing if I recall.
Using this method means that if you have to change the sensor again you don’t have to remove anything other than the cable. :y

I can just about get my hand to the sensor, and have got it past that big grey one. I am afraid to tug anything too hard as I don't want to pull anything apart. I'll follow your advice. :y

I am at that stage in life that I might have to remove the wing to allow me to get close to the engine. But that little extra tug, did the business, and the connector is sitting proudly where I can easily change it :y :y :y

Hi Terbs, you not done that yet? I bumped into Mrs Terbs at Tescos several weeks ago, and she said it needed doing.
The DTM recommended way is to bolt the sensor in (T8 Torx from memory), run the wire up to the brake pipes near ABS modulator, then back to cable tray. You will likely need to adjust where it comes out of the cable tray. Dead easy, and doable at side of road if half parked on a kerb - I'm far too fat to get under it otherwise!

Just a quickie...how important is that foam stuff under the scuttle panel. Mine is in disintegrating state. If its essential I may be able to Gorilla tape it on. Or is it disposable.

Foam on mine is removed without issues,although I seem to remember TB saying it makes the car noisier inside[?].However I've never noticed any particular difference in noise levels.

Remove it. One less thing to retain water and soak the coil packs ;)

It's sound deadening. I would personally try to keep it if possible, but if it's too far gone....
For others, if yours is holding water, fix the lower windscreen seal.

I never noticed the noise impact of removing it. But then the Omega isn't exactly a quiet car to begin with. ;)

I couldn't tell mine was gone either. But how is a stock Omega noisy? ??? ???

It's not noisy per se, as it is quite refined for its time, but there could be more sound deadening inside the cabin.
That said, the S Class produces a fair amount of wind noise from the mirrors.

BMW claimed 75kg of sound proofing in the E34. It's noticeably noisier than an Omega. Although it is pretty gutless on short gearing so it is working harder.
