Title: Plenum painting
Post by: Webby the Bear on 25 August 2023, 17:23:09
Evening all.

I may have asked this in the past (sorry if I’m repeating myself) but what paint can I use to brighten up the intake plenum. What colour and type of paint ?
I want original look. I think it was originally a light grey. But I’ve seen some that are a lot whiter 🤷‍♂️

Will it not "scrub up" with detergent (washing up liquid ) and a nail brush  :-\
IIRC Tony said use CIF / AJAX cream cleanser on his at the last Brackley meet

Thanks DTB. Yeah it probably would clean up ok. But there’s bits flaking off and it looks shite 😃

You could always have it powder coated body colour for a hint of bling 8)

A half competent wheel refurbishment place should be able to oblige...

Thanks DG. No bling required 🤣 just factory. Does anyone know what the original colour was ? Or what would be a close to original look?

I have a spare plenum from a 2002 3.2 V6. Duke01 asked if anyone had one in early August in Parts for Sale /Wanted, but dispite my offer,  mustn't have wanted one that desperately, as he never responded! It's available if you decide not to refinish yours...just send me a pm.

Degrease it,, then primer it, then paint in colour of choice.
It's that simple.

We once removed a mate's rocker cover and painted in a fetching fluorescent hi-viz green!  >:D

It looked cool.  8)  But for some reason he wasn't very pleased when he eventually spotted it!  ;D

It doesn't get hot enough to need anything special - a £2.50 can of gloss silver from Poundland would have been more than good enough, assuming that your preparation is OK. But that applies to any paint you might have used.

Did the engines leave Ellesmere Port with the plenum painted? Weren't the plenums the natural colour of the cast alloy?

I think the early short plenum (2.5/3.0) were painted but none of the later and long plenums were painted
