Evening
Guess there’s a solution somewhere before.
Neither horn button works on my 1999 MV6.
It used to but not anymore. ???
Changed the relay twice for 2 spares, fuse fine + swapped it just in case, tapped horns under car a few times to jiggle them into life and felt around the wiring which all seems secure under NS front.
Only thing I’ve not done is remove airbag and check condition of button electrics - but neither work.
Also the there’s no vibration/click from relay if you hold it whilst depressing horn buttons.
Other than check the button electrics is there anything else ?
I’ve not removed horns nor tried a direct feed to them but on my radar to do unless something daft
-
Do the easy bit first & check that the horns actually work by giving them a direct feed before you dismantle the steering wheel/etc.
The convoluted conduit wore through the wiring to one of the horns of my Omega
-
The horns themselves do fail. Also, the wiring right by the connector to the horns have a tendency to corrode a bit.
Beyond that, its a case of getting the meter out :y
-
Do any of the steering wheel buttons work?
If not, chances are that the clock spring/slip ring has worn out
One button failing followed by the second one points to a problem at the wheel rather than anywhere else. Start there :y

Hi
No neither buttons work nor any horn
Easy enough to remove airbag etc the Tex screws so I’ll try that.
No power at relay so guess buttons not creating a circuit.
-
Well, you should have power at the relay, no matter what. Steering wheel buttons just energise the relay to provide that power to another contact on the relay.
-
The buttons just earth the relay so you should have a 12v feed to the relay.
-
The order of electrical events...
Buttons fire the relay. The relay the runs 12v to the horns and then to ground.

Not quite the question I asked.
The steering wheel might have radio controls on it. Do these buttons also not work?
No power out of the relay is a given if the horn buttons aren't making contact ::)

I would suggest that this is your issue.

Test the horns directly & go from there .....

Thanks for replies.
I’ll check steering wheel contacts and clock spring
I’ve a feeling that both horns wouldn’t pack in simultaneously so must be current supply.
Wiring to horns could also be issue but as I say both going at once and neither horn buttons are working leads me to think horn button electrics 🤔

That's a massive assumption with no evidence ;)

Perhaps, although the wiring for the horns is pretty straightforward. Ergo the solution will be equally simple. If one button used to work and now it doesn't...

Well, it's still a major jump, and whilst not impossible, less likely based on previous posts than other items. And to suggest somebody pays out money on a whim does seem a bit unfair...
It is a nice simple circuit, so diagnosing should be trivial, far better than throwing random parts ;)

Perhaps I misread it, but I took it that the buttons didn't fail simultaneously. Hence the suggestion. But yes, it's the simplest circuit on the Omega so should take much effort to trace.
