Hi - Hey I have a 1997 Cadillac Catera (based on the Omega) that I'm trying to replace the leather shift boot. I have the boot, but can't seem to figure out how to replace it. It appears that one needs to remove the shift knob (auto trans), but there doesn't seem to be a way to remove the knob. The parts book shows the knob and boot as one part, and the shift knob is on the shift rod pretty tight). Anyone with experience like this with some suggestions?
Thanks and regards.

Have a look in the maintenance guides under trim ,cosmetics and body. Under the 'internal' section there is a guide to remove/replace the centre console trim. This might help you get an idea of how to do it. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will be along to give you better advice. Good luck. :y

The easiest way is to cut the stitches at the top of both gaiters. That will enable you to remove the old one complete with the plastic surround it's glued to. You then glue the new gaiter to the plastic. Finally restitch it around the gear lever once you're happy with the fit.
Most of the replacements I've seen have had a wider hole at the top that's closed with a cable tie or cord.
