They label each bottle for different things even if it is the same grade. The Mobil 10w40 will be perfectly fine.

Sump washer should be readily available from VX for less than a tenner with the filter included.

VX used to be the cheapest place to buy service parts. Don't presume your local factors are the cheapest place, or that the dealership parts are always the most expensive.

And it might be possible that this is still the case, especially for the Desmond. You should be able to do an oil change for sub £40 using genuine* parts, plugs air and pollen filter should be lnotably ess than £100.

* Genuine being actual VX branded parts rather than some unknown 'OE' brand that will change according to the last sales rep that came in. They are rarely the same thing and usually cost more than going to the dealer.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/404456052246 for example...

Didnt realise VX Oil filters were costing that much these days, I used to have a trade club card and thinking back am sure I saw filters at £1.59 or £1.89

Is the trade clun card still available.?

Talking parts and owning 3 Omegas, I have bought parts when I have seen a bargain.

I have a pair of rear springs
Full sets of disks/pads/shoes + pins/tension springs and sensors.

Oil/air/pollen filters

Dip/main beam Night breakers or what ever they are called. ::)

I have a gates timing kit for the Elite

Only thing I need to get at the mo are some spark plugs and a timeing kit for the 2.2 (and a water pump + fan belt) for when its serviced.

Don't forget that all 10w/40 semi synthetic oils are not the same - the API S* primarily for petrol engines ratings varies between oils of the same viscosity. Engine oil for diesel engines has C** rating. Gear oil has GL ratings.
I would use oil in the Omega of the same API S* category / rating as GM's own 10w/40, which is SL from memory.

When I went for my MOT I asked how much to do an oil change.  A conversation started about the cost of oils.  His and his wifes cars are both Mercs and he used to pay £30 a gallon for the oil he uses (Synthetic) same oil he is now paying £57 a gallon.

He suggested I get my own oil and filter, bring the car in and he would sort it for £30 (cash) . :-\

they might just wipe the filter and sump plug with an oily rag ,pocket the £30 and keep the oil & filter :-X
If you time it right and do it yourself , you can be lying in a nice cold puddle or even snow  :) #globalwarming

Car is my little 2.2 but I suppose he has worked out the time its left sat dripping oil on the ramp.

Had I have been smart and took the parts with me it may have cost a lot less whilst on the ramp having an MOT

I would say that even the most reasonable indie garage charges about £75-£90 an hour for labour. £30 is eff all to spend at a garage nowadays. Unless you're as poor as a church mouse, as tight as Opti or a masochist.

The guy who does mine, he's been doing it for years, charges £60 p/h. Think that's very reasonable. Perhaps he's charging me 'mates rates' without me realising it.  ;D He's been great, hope he sees me out until i pack up driving. :D

Precisely so.

£30 for the labour

Roughly £12 for 6 litres of oil

£6 for the paper filter from Ebay (supposedly genuine Vauxhall)

I'm happy enough with that. :)

Not unreasonable... at €18. And before anyone says what about shipping, it's €10 for up to 25 litres. So if you buy 5 bottles that's €2 per bottle, which is negligible.

Being able to click on adverts and apps has made people lazy. Both of those items took a whole 30 seconds to research. Whilst having lunch.

Do that company handle the VAT for you, else you'll have to pay that when you import it, which your courier will happily do for an inflated fee.

Remember, not being able to import freely from Europe is what we wanted ;)

Even then it's still cheaper than Autodoc. And whether you get stuck with the VAT or not is chance anyway. But for the sake of argument, buy five bottles and it's €24 per bottle delivered. And five bottles will do 4 V6 services. Add in the filters at £5 each and you can still do an oil change for less than Autodoc will sell you not enough oil for...

Not that £32 is particularly expensive to begin with :-\

The point I was trying to make was that at the time I needed to buy oil Autodoc had it for £21 for 5l, which was cheaper than I could find it anywhere else.  I was buying some other parts from them at the same time so didn't have to worry about the postage.  I agree at £32 this week it's probably not competitive, but just wanted to mention it as it's genuine GM oil which in another post on here I was advised was the best for our beloved motors.. :y
