A 2018 car is an older vehicle? :o Who knew?! ::) ;D

TBH since someone (EU?) passed a law that the technology to re-make keys for keyless vehicles had to be made available outside the dealer networks, this was and will remain inevitable.
Not helped ofc by all premium manufacturers wanting huge sums for spare parts (£1500-2000 for a headlight for example) meaning there's good money in just the front end spares alone, never mind the rest of the car ::)

Most of our cars end up as complete runners in far off lands of questionable ethics (Africa and the 'Stans being the usuals), we have also seen Ukraine cars arriving in central Russia in recent years.
This change closes a back door which allows a key to be programmed once in the car

Interesting, id always assumed that the ranks of parts on eBay shipped from Poland and further east were where most ended up...

A few years back rear light clusters were being stolen from L320 Range Rover Sports, most ended up on eBay where the seller was found & eventually prosecuted.
