I have a Yamaha RX-V 640 RDS which is probaly now over 20 years old and was a good spec in its day.
With it being Black Friday different deals are been offered.
Richer Sounds being one of the offers have got me tempted on a new reciever. Thinking of investing in a Denon AVR
Any Denon fans on the forum?

Have you seen the 'Which' reports into Black Friday's so called deals. If you don't really need to get a replacement yet, you might be better off waiting until they really have genuine reductions and not a price rise just before the event and then a reduction to make it look a bargain.
Oh, and i see from the spec that the model you are looking at doesn't have a 'phono' imput. Which you might need it you have an old Lenko turntable or similar as i have. Just make sure before you waste, no sorry, spend your hard earned. ;)

Not sure how you know. ::)
The Denon I am looking at does have phono sockets, plus HDMI sockets, the ageing Yamaha has the old S Video sockets.
I am aware of the which reports about anual priceing. WHich is why I still have not replaced the PC yet as prices are changeing daily.

Denon and Marantz are pretty much the same company, Marantz being a tad more upmarket (Expensive!).
I'm a fan of both as during lockdown I spent some RBS PPI cash on some new kit. If you have any interest in online streaming and and a whole pile of other stuff, some Denon and Marantz kit had a system called HEOS. It's pretty good. You may think that you don't need or want it, as I didn't, but I'm totally sold on it now. (Yes, I do know about Sonos but it is seriously expensive and I like Denon/Marantz quality).

I still have my old stack system that I bought from Richer Sounds in 1993. :y

My stack system was all Technics (Cd player threw a wobbly so outed it but kept the tuner for some reason, (then ended up with my brothers smaller Kenwood system
Had Rotel and Marantz kit over the years.
Also had the component car stero stuff in the 80's Pioneer KEX33 etc.

Marantz, Denon and Technics were the components of choice when I was at school. And your set up was better if you had the best brand for each component rather than a whole stack from one.
The consensus seemed to be Marantz tape decks, Denon Amp and Technics turntable. Speakers were a bit more subjective depending on the sound you were after and CD players were similarly a question of what worked for you. This was 1993 though so things may have changed :D

I’m running a technics SUV 650 amp had it cleaned and re capped it’s very powerful and is doing far over it’s rated output, they were know to underestimate at that time, I love the sound and will not leave it go unless it smokes itself. Now.. that’s old👍🤣

My Technics amp was rated to 120 Watts per channel and I had a pair of Sony speakers that cut the amp out at 20% volume.
A mate went on holiday and lent me a pair of Wharfdale E90's and gave permission to turn up the volume on them :y
So one day, turned the treble and bass knobs to suit, turned up the volume to arroung 5.5, windows were shaking, neighbers were out, and the police were called. Did take it to 7 but dare not go any louder as they were not my speakers. :-[
Wish I could get hold of a pair of the E series :y

Why? So your neighbours could send the council round every five minutes/smash you face in/ take a hammer to your system?
