Title: Sarah Palin/Fox News
Post by: Banjax on 08 September 2008, 10:35:47
Anyone else ever watch FOX News? It's absolutely hilarious - the right wing agenda they spout in their "Fair and Balanced" reporting actually beggars belief!
It's absolutely hysterical - do these guys do any other comedy shows?

I watched an hour long piece on that mad witch Sarah Palin - jesus - you'd think she was the second coming instead of the sinister christian fundamentalist dictator her record would suggest!!

AND she's a creationist FFS!!!!!! Any other western democracy she'd be a joke - in the US she could be a heartbeat away from leading them!!

rant over...for now

i fear for us all if Obama doesn't get in - you thought Bush was bad....

Not sure that your rants and insults are appropriate in this forum.

As it happens, I believe Obama's endorsement of Al Gore and his global warming hoax could be very damaging. The Democrats have prevented drilling off California, as well as getting polar bears listed as endangered (which they aren't) in order to prevent drilling in Alaska. A US ever-more dependent on foreign energy supplies is not good for anyone.

McCain has, in the past, also spoken out about global warming and, for a while, I thought there was nothing to choose between two poor both presidential candidates. With the adoption of Palin, who has done good work as Governor of Alaska, I'm minded to hope for a McCain victory as being the best chance of a US economic revival.

The fact that she is a God-fearing Christian should not, in my view, be the subject of ridicule. Religion is a personal thing and should remain so.

I don't care which "invisible super-being" anyone chooses to believe in - thats their choice - I'm a big Star Wars fan - I like that story  ;D

But when that belief starts to impinge on other peoples right to free speech - then I get nervous.

Sarah palin is a dangerous throwback to to darker times - she wants to hunts wolfs in helicopters FFS!!
her record on the environment is appalling - allowing drilling seemingly without any regard to dwindling resources or destruction of natural habitat (not to mention some of the most beautiful scenery on earth)

interesting that you doubt the validity of climate change and yet you're quite happy to allow spurious religious beliefs without seeking "evidence"

but I always say - never discuss religion or politics with friends - so I'll shut up  ;)

I do not trust creationists one little bit, I have discussed this with various religious people, they all think that evolution and big bang happened, and that the religious texts need to be read in the context they were written in.

I've just come back from a country where wolves are shot on sight. Especially as a local was killed by one in a nearby village two years ago. What's wrong with using choppers if you're protecting farm animals and humans? Beats walking.

The amount of habitat which would be turned over to oil production would equate to the size of Washington Dulles Airport. Barely a dot when you consider the size of Alaska. As for dwindling resources, who says? The US has enough natural gas, for example, for the next 118 years. Peak oil is a myth, just as global warming is a myth.

I have seen no evidence to support your theory that Ms Palin wishes to deny free speech.

you believe peak oil and global warming are myths - thats fine - if a bit odd  :-? :-?

the free speech thing - like most religious fanatics Palin will not allow anyone with a differing voice to be heard - within weeks of taking office she'd sacked the Chief of Police and the Fire chief for voicing concerns, she also intimidated the head librarian at a public meeting when questioning her on banning certain books (this is a 21st century democracy remember!!) - the librarian was sacked (later re-instated after a massive protest from locals)

she's a religious nut.
she's a war-monger.
she's a member of NRA (loony-right wing gun fetishists)
she wants to shoot wolves.
from helicopters.
if alaska's so big that you wouldn't notice a few Multi-national conglomerate oil exploration, drilling and refining complexes - do you really think a few wolfs would stand out in the wilderness??

Cem, to be fair, there are two sides to every story. The liberal media in the US has been unstinting in its efforts to portray Palin in the light you have described, but I would urge you to read the following blog report from Australia. It restores the balance, I feel.  :y

Thats Ok..

But if we talk the facts:
 Georgia started the invasion first,
trusting the US forces..And after Russia make the expected next step ..

Question is:  do the US govt (not the visible one) predict the next step of Russia or not ..if yes ..

Under those stress conditions if you take Georgia to Nato this means you are opening the doors of hell...

Sorry to drag this thread up again..well, actually I'm not.  ;)

I'm not implying that I agree with any or all of what Sarah Palin says, but I can see quite clearly how parts of the US media are trying to misrepresent her. Whether media misrepresentation happens in the US or the UK, or anywhere else for that matter, it is a cause for great concern in my book.

A night or two back, Palin was interviewed by the left-leaning ABC network. Take a look here at the transcript and see what was edited out. It is clear that a concerted effort was made to misrepresent her views. Whether you agree with her policies or not, such actions are, to my mind, indefensible.

The US election campaign is getting rough. The Obama camp have made a video-ad about the fact that McCain can't send an e-mail.

Seems he can't use keyboard or tie his shoelaces!!!  :o

BUT:

It didn't take long for a blogger to find out that the reason for this was the severe beatings he received from the VC during the Vietnam War.

(Cue Homer Simpson "DOH!")

Seems the Democratic camp is in self-destruct mode.

A somewhat unpleasant comment.

The parts were either edited out or they weren't. It doesn't matter what website this is reported on. It is either fact or fiction. Since ABC has not contested the story (which I believe they would if it were false), I assume it to be true.

If they deleted parts did exist in the original interview, they do not, in my mind, constitute "waffle". To me it is clear they were edited out to create a false impression.

As far as reading unbiased news, I bet you think The Guardian and The Independent are unbiased.  ;D

sorry Nickbat - you're right - it was a bit harsh  :-[

i'm just really nervous of where we'll end up with someone with such a right wing agenda and very limited experience in power - i think McCain made a BIG mistake in chasing the female voters and fundamentalist christian right in one swoop - he's not thought this through.

the indy and guardian aren't perfect - but i read a load of papers/websites/news outlets and all you can do is form your opinion by how much you trust one source over another based on track record and agenda (eg i do not trust FOX to give fair and balanced reporting they are a republican mouthpiece almost without exception, i would trust the BBC to be fair or at least endeavour to be fair - which is all you can ask - there is no one truth out there) :y

As VP her insanity may be containable, but McCain is an old man and if he dies as preident then............................................well it does not bear thinking about really.
I think that overall it would be best if Obaama wins the US elections.
We'll all know shortly. :-/ :-/

He's known to admire Al Gore and may well drag him back in an official capacity. Nooooooooooo!!  :(

So, no, it wouldn't be best.

Oh, and by the way, did you read the ABC unedited transcript? Palin didn't come over as insane to me.

do you ever read unbiased news - or take everything from right wing sabre-rattling websites?

so what does this mean? Palin's a liberal then? I think you have to look at more than one source - sorry - i fail to see the point - so a right wing "news" website cries foul on a right wing candidate? hold the front page!!!!

i wonder if FOX News ever misrepresent the facts or "edit" interviews - seems to me ABC cut out the waffle - please don't excuse her - she has enough friends in the media already :(
