The makeup of the European Parliament could change dramatically tonight, when the results are announced. A surge by the 'far right' threatens to upset the bloc's views on environmental and immigration issues. Interesting times.

There's always hope.
As with all things, I'd like to cherry pick, but I can't. I would love to see the net zero and immigration bandwagon come to a screeching halt, but I'm not keen on closer ties with Putin.

Funny how 5 years ago while the Continentals were voting for Green and other left wing parties, we gave the Tories a big majority.
Now the tables have turned and as we lurch to the left, the Continentals are going in the opposite direction.
-
Wait until Starmer gives 16 year olds the vote. We could have left wing governments permanently. >:(
He says they are old enough to pay tax, so its only fair they should be allowed to vote.
I would propose to make it simpler still. If you pay tax you can vote. If you dont, you cant. :)

Where would that leave pensioners on low incomes.?

As long as they all maintain the 'triple lock', i wouldn't give a shit if i couldn't vote for any of the self serving tvvats. ;D
-
I have no intention of ever voting again, they're all a bunch of useless cu**s & we are so deep in the shit we've got no chance of climbing back out. Just seen Starmer promise to build more prisons not a lot of use if you have no staff to manage them, they are leaving in droves, at my old establishment two new members of staff have committed suicide in the last four weeks.
-
Starmer has made cast iron promises not to raise the " big three" taxes.
So, watch out for your private pension funds. I expect them to be attacked, Gordon Brown style. And possibly a wealth tax and tax on nice houses.
We may not care when they tax multi millionaires on their wealth, or people who live in houses we couldnt afford, but once it starts it wont stop.
As the sums increasingly dont add up the threshold for the taxes will become ever lower.

Macron is obviously shit scared Marine Le Pen will get in if he left it till 2027

There will be much wailing and knashing of teeth in the Palace of Berlaymont tonight! >:D

The Belgian Government may as well be a civil service chat bot. :-X

Is Belgium actually a real country ? ::)

Looks like there might be elections in Germany as well.

Looks like there might be elections in Germany as well.
A swing to the right is nearly always a response to extreme left wing lunacy.
100 genders, men in women's prisons, unlimited immigration. That type of thing.

You'd think that on the 80th anniversary of D-Day, probably the last major anniversary many of the surviving Vets will see, our governing classes would have thought it right to hang out the Union Flags for the occasion and maybe have a garden party at Buck House with the King and Queen for those old boys. ::)
But no, Sunak's attitude sums them up and they think hanging out the alphabet soup flags is far more important! :-X
Clucking funts.... >:(

I fear that may be considered racist to certain element of our 'diverse' population. :-X
Whereas everyone loves the pride flag. ::)

Change is coming......hopefully :)

Yes some of the more demented might think that, but troops from all over the Empire/Commonwealth took part in D-Day. ::)

Thing is, if you don't vote, then you have no right to bitch and moan about the outcome.

Bitching and moaning after the event is a pretty pointless exercise.

I dunno, I'm quite looking forward to bitching and moaning about our shiny new Labour Govt to my lefty mate down the pub. :y
Seeing him twist, turn and squirm as he tries to defend the inevitable shit show will be quite amusing! :)
-
We have some Scottish friends here who can see no ills with the SNP. Even the charge of appropriation of party funds . “ let’s see what the court decides”!
Illustrates to me how some people stick with a party regardless.

Maybe, but you must have been turning, twisting and squirming for the last five years or so :)

Indeed, but having voted for anything else you have that right ;)
Not voting at all removes that pleasure.

I don't need to vote to bitch and moan, no one will know. Only me and, like most politicians, I'm not telling :P

TBH you'll have to give it a few years for the 'blaming the last government ' shite to die off. Tbf, the current government tried it well into their second term in power so fair's fair I guess. ;D

Well given that my mate has dismissed that argument since 2010, I won't be giving him any quarter! ;D
They talk a lot about the '14 years', but it did take nearly 10 years to sort out the whopping budget deficit that Labour left behind, then there was the Brexit chaos mostly caused by Labour, the Limp Dems and the Tory wets, and then along came covid... :-X

Unthinking Dogma.
For generations my family has always voted for Labour/ Tory /SNP/ Libs etc..etc. so I do the same without giving it much thought.
I consider myself apolitical. :)

Do the right thing this time around. ;)
The whole bloody shambles needs to be Reformed. :)
