When using this method of code reading is there a way of clearing the codes so you know which are historic and which are current?

You're expecting a lot from a paper clip. ;)

Not expecting a lot at all. Just wondered if there was a way of clearing existing codes (pulling a certain fuse for example)so not trying to fix faults that no longer exist.

It's so many key /start cycles clears the faults ,depending on which system IIRC

Some clear immediately on next start
Some clear from paperclip/pedal test after so many clean starts but remain in ECU
Some clear from ECU after so many clean starts
Some never clear
So its dependant on code, and if its (in GM terms) Present or Not Present (many readers use pending and not pending and present)

I'll give the el cheapo code reader a go and see if that interacts with the car,then if not go with the paper clip and see what comes up.I would think something will as it's not had codes looked at since I bought it in 2011 and it's certainly had it's problems[and still does have at least a couple]since then.

I'm assuming that you are talking about the 3.0 from your profile. A generic ODBII/EOBD reader will not work on that I'm afraid.

Yes it is the 3.0 I had an idea my reader wouldn't work on it but thought it might be worth a try,but looking at it the plug is not compatible so paper clip it will be then.

Plug should be compatible, as all Omegas had the ODBII type socket. Its just all be the last didn't talk the right language
