Title: TC light on
Post by: danzigfan on 20 August 2024, 12:04:28
Hi guys, my Omega had a classic ABS unit fault (ABS/TC light on and no speedo) so I replaced it with my previous known good one from 2.5V6, which was laying in attic for three years. This unit was working fine for almost seven years in my 2.5, but now I'm getting  TC light on.
Both unit have the sam part numbers on and ABS pump is also the same - marked as DX.
Where did I f....up? :(

You need the fault codes to confirm the actual error.

That said, after swapping the ECUs driving the car might recalibrate the second hand one.

Not the engine codes, the ABS ones.

I *think* the ABS has to be reprogrammed between a 3.0 and 2.5, I can't remember what the code index settings where on ABS unit, and don't have access to a 2.5/3.0 to try.

I remember the ABS modules do know engine size and gearbox type.  Dunno what the wrong program does...
My very old one had a brand new one at one point, unprogrammed, which caused stalling and weirdness.
When I had it coded (was just engine size and auto / manual from the tech2 menu iirc) the engine note changed, and it never stalled again.

fitting an abs ecu from a 2.5 auto vs 3.0 auto shouldn't cause any issues . we fitted a 3.0 one to our 2.5 many years ago and no issues

plus i wouldn't see any connection  bewtween this and the tachometer ?
is the speedo working fine and no abs light ?   just tc light and no rpm ?
sounds like 2 separate coincidental issues ( or one causing both ???)

Speedo is fine, cruise control works, ABS is fine...And doing it all again just to see if it works fine with old ABS unit, that had occasionally problems with no speedo, abs + tc on, just the thoight of that makes me ill...Bloody unit is cramped so deep inside, my swear jar is full

That's why you need to read the codes.
Although the usual cause is the ECU which gives the symptoms you don't have, the valve block can also fail which is what happened to mine.

I talked to coworker, former Opel mechanic and he called a guy who used to have all Obd1 stuff...Said he doesn't have it anymore, it hasn't been used for years so he got rid of it. I don't believe even dealership will have it nowadays.
Any suggestion?

Some weird stuff is happening here...This morning after work I started the car and heated rear window didn't work. Then I messed with fuses for a bit and drove off. Suddenly rpm gauge started to jump all over the place and window/morror heater was working.
Is there a connection between those two? Any relays, fuses all wires to check?

Just check alternator voltage - I've seen weird oddities when the regulator fails due to higher than normal voltages

...some even more weird stuff now....I took the car to shop and everything works fine ???
Everything works...Could it be just some self learning or something like that?

No

As a thought, the TC light also comes on when you press the switch to turn it off.

The fact that the ABS light is NOT on and the Speedo works suggest that the ABS is in fact ok.

A definitive test would be what happens when you stand on the brakes from a reasonable speed?

That I will report tomorrow....or not, it all depends on ABS unit :-X
