Title: Good news and bad news
Post by: Varche on 10 October 2024, 10:02:14
First the bad. My father passed away peacefully at the ripe old age of 97 and10 months. I really thought he would make 100 but his heart said otherwise.

The good news? My black suit bought four years ago for my brother’s funeral still fits and has no moth holes!

Sorry to see this Varche.  :(  Nearly 98 though. A good age and from what you've told us he continued to live at home, albeit with a lot of support?

None of us can ask for much more than that.  RIP Varche's Dad.  :'(

Glad to hear you don't have to buy a new suit.  ;)

My condolences Varche. Never easy even if somewhat expected, but as said, 97 is no mean feat by any measure. :y

As for the suit, the olive oil and sangria diet has clearly served you well  :D

Sorry for your loss, Varche. You did a lot for your dad, he was well looked after in his formative years. Good lad.

Sorry to hear that Varche. Even though they have made a right old age, it's still a hell of a wrench when they pass.

Sorry for your loss Varche.

A terrible thing, to lose a parent, but close to 98 is an innings I think any of us would gladly accept.

Sorry to hear that Varche.

My Weddings, Funerals and Christenings suit must be 7 or 8 years old now. Obviously it doesn't see many weddings and christenings now....

Thanks.

I fully expected the suit to have shrunk as they do. Might be the last time I wear it. Spain is certainly informal and I suspect UK will be.

He was in the Green Howards and attended weekly gatherings until about four years ago.

He had always made us promise not to put him in a home. At end of August we had two health appointments back home and out of meds. So we put him in respite care. Only five years old purpose built spot in Scarborough. Couldn’t fault it. When we came back he asked could he stay there and he positively flourished healthwise and mentally. Still had terrible short term memory. We couldn’t have given him the care he got there for the last six weeks.

My condolencies to you Varche .
As others have said he reached a commendable age but it's still a wrench when we lose our parents.
Treasure those memories .

Sincere condolences for your loss Varche. Your Dad was a good old age but it still doesn’t make the loss any easier.

Sorry to hear this but, as said, he had a good run. Clearly you didn't cause him too much stress as a youth.  ;)

Sorry for your loss, good age but still your dad, I miss mine a lot and he's been gone 7 years now.
Still got Mum though at 94 and living on her own at home still for now
