Title: Rear fog lights.
Post by: Migv6 le Frog Fan on 14 December 2024, 16:35:47
They arent working. But telltale light on dash lights up ok. First two things that sprung to mind were a fuse and the wiring at the boot lid which can break down over the years with opening / closing of the boot.
two or three possible fuses, although Im pretty sure F28 is the correct one, but all fuses ok.
Traced the wiring from boot lid back into the car and it connects just above the spare wheel. Seems to be no power getting to the connector.
This is all on the assumption that the live wire is blue black and brown is 0v (earth).
Any ideas / info / knowledge appreciated.

Should have checked all lights a week ago, and then might have fixed the issue and not got an MOT fail. :-[

Grounding point is under the light in the rear quarter.

Also, and it's a stupid point but..., when you checked at the boot lid, you did have the headlights switched on?

Legally rear fog lights can only be switched on with either headlights or front fogs AND sidelights switched on.

Also, if it comes to it, the switches are interchangeable and removable from the main headlight switch so easy enough to swap out for testing purposes  ;)

Switched front fogs on, rears still not working.
Will check grounding point tomorrow in daylight. :y
If it isnt that, I will delve further, although if dash telltale comes on wouldnt that indicate the switch is working ?

theres a plug/socket in the boot that would feed the rear fogs for a trailer  .... in normal use there should be a bridging plug  shorting the blue/black wire.

Its been a looooong while though since I've even seen an Omega  ???

Depends on how the thing is wired. Diagram in Haynes will clarify  ;)

Just been out and had a quick play, checked earth, wiggled some wires, just before planning to use a meter to check ofr 12v along the circuit from the fusebox working towards the lamp cluster.
At some point during the wigglingof  wires, the fogs came on, and no amount of wiggling of wires would make them go off again.
That will do for me. As long as they light up when the MOT man checks them Im happy.
Cant remember ever using them anyway.  ;D
