Title: Route help
Post by: Varche on 16 December 2024, 16:56:54
Destination tomorrow is Leicester.

Crossing channel via Eurotunnel arriving uk at 11.00 am

What is the best route please? Up the M1 or M11 taking into account any roadworks .

Partly depends on which way around the M25 you go.

Not sure I would use the M11 to head to Leicester though :-\

M1 has a few restrictions on it, but would still use it over M11/A14 to get to around Jnc 23 of M1...

Dart ford crossing way ie anti-clockwise. Note to self - try and register for the dartford crossing in advance……

The only reason for asking is the last time the M1 was absolutely diabolical almost all the way.

I nearly suggested Rotterdam to Hull.

It will be grim past Hemel and Luton, and I think teh 50 limit is still in place up to MK.

But the M11 is the worlds most boring motorway, and the A14 road surface currently looks like downtown Gaza

Yes arrived!

What a contrast. Northern France. Smooth level road surfaces , cruise at 85 mph , hardly any vehicles.

Come off efficient Eurotunnel and you are straight into 50 mph roadworks. I swear it is the same set of roadworks I last experienced 4 years ago. Mile after mile of the purple conduit strung on temporary supports ( or is that their final resting place?)

We decided to just go up the M1. Just as bad!  The only people we saw working were a group of five men who appeared to be having a team meeting.  That was the final straw. Mrs V sent the Highways Agency a complaint.

Remember, "We may be working out of sight".

Which essentially means they are working like HS2 construction staff....   ...from the pub.

It's much like anywhere that has a notice up saying "We will not tolerate abuse of our staff". That translates to "we know we are utterly incompetent, and our lack of ability to assist will piss you off, but we CBA to do anything about it"

If you're stupid enough to try to ring Barnsley council, you get a five minute lecture before you're connected to someone who doesn't know anything about anything.

And as I have found, they are unable to transfer you to someone who can help.

That's right. They can log whatever you're calling about and pass it on to the relevant department. Not.

“That was the final straw. Mrs V sent the Highways Agency a complaint“

Just read that the Highways agency has removed 95% of its roadworks for the Xmas period. Must have been a monumental amount of overtime to remove all those cones, signs and so on!

Today is going to be the busiest day on the roads.
