Think I might have seen one yesterday parked on side of the road, not 100% as just a quick glance as I went by in traffic.

Saw a dark green estate on the Shrewsbury ring road the day before Christmas eve.

On the back of a flat bed being towed by a Mk1 X5  ;D

I saw the first Omega in ages a few weeks ago, it reminded me to collect the 3.2 Elite I accidentally bought from BCA and had left there for 6 weeks  ;D
I've now got a Prestige Blue (Z20Q) 3.2 Elite saloon parked here! Drove it today, it took me back 12/13 years when I drove one every day!

I've been selling really boring Hyundai / Kia things recently, and this 22 year old Vauxhall reminded me they're pretty good!

I guess the difference between appliance cars and real cars.  Still, I suppose the market is moving that way, so as a dodgy used car dealer, you have to follow.

Welcome back - we must be due a meet up at some point, seems to have been ages.  Was it when I nicked an XF for the day? LOL

Migv6 - thank you, it has been a long time but feels like being back in 2009 again  ;D

Johnny - yes, that's absolutely the car! Someone has looked after it, last reg'd keeper was in Swindon, but I didn't recognise the name or remember having seen the car before!

Jaime - Sadly you're correct, I still sell a few Range Rover's, and older Bentley's etc but really it's Hyundai Kona's, Kia Niro's. Tech is nice in them, but they do feel disposable and feeble compared to real cars!

Indeed, be great to catch up!

Kevin - well remembered  ;D and I think a very sensible suggestion!

I saw it listed on BCA, so presumed it was the same car. Following the sale I didn't see it appear on Ebay or A/T.  I was  little curious I guess as to where it had gone - hoping it hadn't been purchased to be broken for spares, so it's good to see that it may be looked after - for the short term at least! What do you propose to do with it?

Thank you! I was just thinking, must be 6 or 7 years since I last saw you when I bought a 3.2 Elite estate from you! I'm ashamed I can't remember the reg, was it a 2003 '52'?

Good questions, so I bought it slightly on a whim, as you know, I sell cars day to day, but have not had an Omega for many years, cheap cars for me are not viable to sell. Selling a £1k-£3k really is'nt easy. My price point is typically £6,000-£35,000.

I bought this Omega, because it was the 3.2 Elite, and a friends daughter needs a bit of direction. She will be working with me, just on this vehicle to essentially learn the benefits of hard work and why having a network of people you trust in your business dealings can be vital. She'll get 50% of any profit.

Until I'd driven it yesterday I was unsure what to do with it. I was expecting it to be poor, drive poorly and generally feel unloved. The paintwork is poor, (lacquer peel) so I suspected the car in whole would be bad.

Surprisingly it was very good, it feels like an Omega I would have sold back in 2009. Small things like, working ash tray, plenum caps present, working air con, two like new keys, smooth engine, drives very straight, good suspension with no knocks has made me decide to invest in it and return it to as good as is possible.

I will sell it, but I will have all the paint work sorted, cam belt change, and a service and present it in the way it deserves. I'll be sensible in the sale price.

Happy to share price paid via PM.

It was November 2019 when you were over my place so not quite as long ago as you thought.  :y  Reg was KR52 BWO and I still miss the old girl at times. It was about for a couple more years but then went off the radar.  ;(  (Yes, I stalked it on the .gov site to see if it was still being looked after)  ::)   :)

I tested out the Lamb Naga option last night at one of the curry houses - Tiffins is no more - but it really didn't settle well :(

Shall we do a Northants or Oxford food/meet? I've got 24 vehicles in currently, so might suggest meeting up here so you can look / drive some and realise anything after 2015 is terrible  ;D

A friend of mine runs a very good chinese restaurant, and will adjust any dish as you wish!

I have been known to eat a burger and chips from the kebab van served on a plate in his restaurant  ;D so there is a good chance Jaime can have a curry from next door brought in!

I think sit-down chinkys.  And Brakkers and surrounding area is completely devoid of them.

I feel a plan forming ;D

Shall we tentatively try and arrange a date / time? I've messaged Al, so hopefully he can join us too!

Should I create a new topic, or carry on here?

I'll make sure I've got 7-8 cars available for testing / general poking around that day.

I'd say make some early plans.  Might be better for when its actually a bit warmer/dry ?

Just spotted a silver Omega on a recent BENGREGERS YouTube clip. He films cars going through floods and KD52 OKL ignored a road closed sign (tut tut) and went through the flood.  :y
Anyone on here?  :-\

It amazes me the speed that various cars go through the water at & then are surprised they come to a full stop with an engine full of water .... and the 4x4s that think they're bullet proof.

Although the airbox sits a little higher, the intake pipe runs down from the grill so can actually inhale a pretty decent amount of water.

i assume ( or hope as i can't check mine at the mo) that there is a small drain hole at the bottom  ?

;D There isn't. But it's a moot point.

The intake pipe probably holds 4 litres of water, plus another 8 if you include the air filter housing and pipe upto the TB. A 3.2 at 4,000 rpm is pulling in 12,800 litres of air a minute. That's 214 litres a second..if you're lucky you might hoover up a slash without issue, but if you submerge the intake for even half a second, the engine is done.

Even at idle it's processing 32 litres of air per second.
Title: Re: spotted an Omega
Post by: Doctor Gollum on 02 February 2025, 17:26:54
And if you want to check the maths:

(Capacity in litres X Revs per minute)/60 = Litres per second for every crank rotation.

Divide that by two for valve timing but allow for the fact that you only need one cylinder to inhale it's capacity in water on the intake  stroke to grenade it the instant the  compression stroke starts.

Even if you halve the above numbers and then divide by the number of cylinders you only have a couple of seconds to switch it off at idle. Any rpm above that the semantics are irrelevant. The engine is simply going to inhale the water faster than you can say oops.
