Title: Help decoding paperclip test: 97 pfl X20XEV Opel Omega simtec
Post by: pahaahv on 04 January 2025, 10:59:37
Hello

I'd like to ask for some assistance in decoding my EML flashes from paperclip test. I followed the advice given here in this older topic:
https://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90581.0 (https://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90581.0)

I recorded a video of the test:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yc6ZcBpd5Kg (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yc6ZcBpd5Kg)

As stated in the video the car is 97 pfl X20XEV Opel, has a simtec 56 ECU manufactured in october of 96. That's all I know.

How can I exactly decode the flashes?
What I'm seeing is that it flashes only:
10
3
3
5

...over and over again and nothing else.

The car has been suffering from starting problems occasionally and last night I drove it for maybe 10km with the AC on HI and full blast and the temperature was rising to near 100C. When I noticed it I immediately shut off the AC. It fell down to 95-97C. Today it was about 95C. The coolant is near the "kalt" line if hot. Will check the level when it has cooled down. A significant problem?

I live in Estonia and right now there's a lot of snow and the temperature outside is -5C if that's important. The service i went to in october put in GM 5w-30 oil if that's important.

its reporting P0335    incorrect rpm signal so to me that suggests a problem with the crank sensor or connection.
someone more knowlegable than ne on these early cars should be along soon to offer more advice if required

Thanks man! An obvious problem looks like, but can you explain to me how do you get p0335 from 10,3,3,5? 10 = p0?

The P in the fault code stands for Powertrain, which indicates that the issue is related to the engine, transmission, or drivetrain.

0 is represented by 10

So in your case P (powertrain) 10 =0, 3, 3, 5.  :y

This DTC (fault code) can then be either looked up on this forum or googled. Hope that helps.  :y
