The bonnet support arms have developed the fault of not being able to hold up the bonnet when open after a few minutes. The hydraulic strength of them has almost gone.
Are there new replacements on the market please? ???
Many thanks.

SGS Engineering might be worth a look.

chances are it's just one that's failed making it drop but they seem to be available new on ebay if needs be ! or a used one as they seem pretty reliable

Thanks for the advise. Just ordered two from my favourite parts supplier for the Omega, Autodoc :D ;)

Replace in pairs always best idea. Generally f one is tired, other won’t be far behind.
The quick release clips can be fiddly if not done one before
-
If they're getting weak, the cold highlights it.
Some 3in1 on the clips a day or so before can help free them up along with a slim, flat screwdriver. Obviously try not to stab your, the windscreen or bodywork as you do them and change one side at a time.

Starting with weakest, and if the remaining strut is not strong enough, borrow a set of hands from passers by

Or a stick of the appropriate length. Thats what Ive been using at the front of the Boxster for the last couple of years. ;D

I needed a broom handle to hold up the boot lid of the Mk2 Granny i once had. :D

Well, I may have put off replacing the HBV and cam cover gaskets due to my health and the soooo cold temperatures, but at least today I replaced the bonnet support arms as soon as they arrived from Autodoc! :D :D ;)
The arms I purchased are made by JP Group a/s of Denmark, part no. 1281202500, and are an exact, great quality, replacement for the originals. Fitted within 20 minutes, so I feel happy now - onto the other two main jobs when I can! ;D :D :)

I nice easy win, and doable on a chilly day without getting too pissed off :y

Yes, indeed TB! ;D ;D :y
Trouble is I keep putting off the HBV renewal and cam cover gaskets work ::) ::) Maybe the warmer weather will come along for me soon :D ;)

Ensuring the heater works is not a job to delay when it's the middle of winter ::) . HBV isn't a difficult or long job, unlike replacing the heater matrix.

Well done Lizzie do you know if the boot struts are the same model as the bonnet ones.My front ones are on the way out and the boot ones are not much better.
-
No, they are different.
Part nos for the bonnet struts (all models) - 90379054
Part nos for the boot struts (saloon) - upto chass.no. X1999999 - 90379025, and from chass no. Y1000001 - 9146281
HTH
-
Incidentally, if yours is an estate, all models are also different again - part no. 90379081
-
Thanks but confused my chassis no is Wolov BM6931082175

When I bought new struts for my estate tailgate #-&^$% years ago, they were cheaper than the saloon ones! I suspect that's because they're a length that's usable in other general applications - they were aftermarket.
This sort of gas spring is so cheap it isn't worth not replacing them.

Assuming they are for your 2003 car, the Y****** on will be correct. :y
-
The difference for preand post facelift will be to allow for the differences between the two bootlids whereas ALL estates use the same struts because there's no difference between the tailgates.
-
I have an inkling that the FL bonnet struts are different to PFL/MFL ones as well, due to extra bonnet weight.

definitely different part numbers but I can't see they'd be that different :-\

There's probably another 5 kg of weight, but it's right at the far end so there's a bit of leverage there.

I replaced mine a few months ago off ebay work ok https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/335591268344?fits=Plat_Gen%3AB%7CModel%3AOmega&_skw=Bonnet+Hood+Gas+Spring+Struts+For+Opel+Vauxhall+Omega+B+Estate+Saloon+94-03+PAIR&itmmeta=01JKFR75V10GS4V1CB7TR321QB&hash=item4e22cc5ff8:g:G84AAOSwTRRkuo8c&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAABMHoV3kP08IDx%2BKZ9MfhVJKlnfsUG0bBb5hkFjlMm%2Brj9XcGTYoDSCIi6RsuiIGNXC09OGTqrpwOk29ts3YUIXboaYy97ZwI%2FokKcInE2VxjMM7xT0GYuGgy6uzIx8h%2B8x7U%2BxVz7nxAxdJM%2FqYjO0Zvj7Ff3w8VUWixgnaokUGmY3wrSCkQD1f70ZqtnadRjy4oxgGNreSp1FLLoUzyA5LnGoVQ10C4HNKIvFowDI9tDBpXR7a2C71UKbPYMauLWejyRvbhdhkT5Wa7TRT6Gn5zARXrdi1kTwBsdFCJjaNidb9gYCsuzCUnmS16UaPNFD5BSNZZiGzwQoHWHtYIkmamJN08Tv1nrlhdkhUP7XDaWVqiKdCZ9ylNivrabZG7Ab6cbnbrbDNzwu66bHVoEVYU%3D%7Ctkp%3ABFBM2t2c-Jtl

The pre-facelift bonnet struts are 240N, the later ones are 290N
