I watch TV using Freeview. For the past few days if I select channel 17[Really]the picture is breaking up and the sound is stuttery. The same effect happens on channel 48[Challenge] and channel 60[U&Drama+1] although all the other channels from 1{BBC] to 82{Talking picturesTV] are fine including channel 20[U&Drama].I've tried retuning the TV but the problem remains,is anyone else having such issues? Any clues on the issue and how to fix it? The TV gets its signal from a roof top aerial as it always has and is not connected to the internet or any other source.

Perhaps it is not relevant for where you live, but those channels via Freeview down here in Kent are fine. No problems.
But I have a booster on my aerial feed with good signal quality.
Has your aerial Baza been disturbed in any way?
All it needs is the aerial to be moved only slightly from its signal capture zone for the pictures on the weakest channels, as they are, to become distorted. ;)
Have a look at the signal strength on each of these channels vs the stronger ones, such as BBC or ITV, if you can via the info button. ;)

Moving on from Lizzie's post, some Freeview channels are not available in certain areas. If you get the Freeview guide up on your screen i think you could find out more. HTH.

"…………..and on from ronnyd post ;D ;D ;D
Try going on this site to check what Freeview channels you should expect to get:
https://www.freeview.co.uk/freeview-channel-checker
;)
If this is no different than before, back to checking the aerial.

Of the options posted above I'd be inclined to go for aerial problem. If I select a channel that's not available in my area it just shows a blank screen and this problem only arose a few days ago prior to which the channels I mentioned were fine.I live in one of the inner bungalows of a row of four and my aerial is high up on the gable end of a next door neighbours outer bungalow so access to it is awkward. The aerial has always been where it is since before we moved here 11 years ago. But I'll look at that channel checker to see if that offers a solution.

Ask your neighbours if they use freeview, then ask them if they are receiving those channels ok
-
channel 48 is always the first to break up on mine too and thats with a near direct view to emley moor . 99% of the time its fine so i just put it down to a weaker signal on that channel ( not that freeview will be around for ever if the powers that be get their way !)

Usual checks - retune, then see if all the impacted channels are on the same Mux, and if so, check the engineering page of your transmitter as it may be a Mux is on reduced power

The muxes carrying the lower budget channels often have lower TX power and / or less robust coding to cram more channels in, so they are often the first to deteriorate. They have also been retuned in recent years, so worth checking that the antenna is still targeting the right group.

Well I retuned and that made no difference so looked on their website which said all signals were good. There was the option to webchat but apparently they're only there Monday to Friday 9 to 5. Was going to do that later but checking again this morning and all channels are operating as they should.

Have you checked the aerial though? Check also all leads, and any booster if you have one Baza. Has a bird or other animal damaged the aerial or leads? I recommend you keep a very open minds as something has changed the signal quality.
If you can, get up onto where the aerial is on the roof and check everything out. I have spent many a happy minute on roofs installing / checking aerials as my ex was scarred of heights, so I did all that kind of, high level work! ;D ;)

Why, did he fall down and cut himself? Sorry Lizzie, couldn't resist. :-*

;D ;D ;D Well in a way he was "scarred" by being at height, as well as "scared" ;D ;D ;D
My spelling gets no better with age!! ::) ::) :D ;)

Guessing you are on the Belmont transmitter given your location?
The channels you are having issues with are all on the same transponder channel (C23) and is a medium power one (the low power ones are for local stations only):
https://ukfree.tv/transmitters/tv/Belmont
Its possible if the antenna and/or cable is deteriorating then it will be the first to be affected (as its low power and low in the spectrum)
-
Yes it is the Belmont transmitter. I'll see about getting the aerial checked out

Yeah, that's the problem. We have an aerial stuck on the wall or chimney for over forty years, then we moan when it goes tits up. ;D

Looked at aerial (not that I'm an expert on such things) couldn't see anything wrong there, coax as far as I could tell looked sound but wouldn't know how to test it and as it stretches across my front room through the window frame up to gutter level then across the front of my bungalow and my neighbours and on up his gable end to above roof height there's an awful lot of it! Finally found the problem was with the end that plugs into the TV. Somehow not only had it come slightly loose in the TV socket (suppose I must have caught it somehow) but it was insecure on the cable(don't know how that happened either) now all tightened up and secured and all good again.

No offence, Baza, but that really should have been the first thing you checked.
Still, it kept us amused for a while.

I totally agree Stemo but then I'm always wiser after the event 😉
-
Glad you found the problem Baza :y :y
That kept you busy for a while ;D ;D ;)

My Freeview goes haywire every time we get heavy rain. I just read a book or watch stuff on Youtube instead. ;D
I'll get the ladders out...... One day.... ::) :D
