I don't think there is such a thing as cheap flights these days Skruntie. :-\
However.... Go to Google Travel. Click on flights. Put in your departure airport. Then use the map function to search for flights and prices. Adjust the dates as required, although this might adjust the price as well.
Skyscanner is quite good as well. :)

My advice fwiw, ONLY book flights direct with the airline.
The reason is simple. Booking through an agent, you are a customer of that agent not the airline. So when it all goes to shit, you'll be dealing with the agent not the airline. By booking direct you are the customer of the airline and their obligations reflect this.
If you miss a connection or something else happens it could just be the difference between buying a new ticket or not.
Other things that get screwed up between the agent and the airline are things like seat choices or meal requests. Much easier to sort direct, but alot harder via an agent.
Personally speaking I fly just as often with easyJet as I do BA.
If you want to add accommodation and car hire/transfers most airlines will offer to add these to a booking, but they're just as easily sources elsewhere... Although the above applies just as to the extras. If you can book direct and be very clear about your itinerary.
Also, just because you can book a 45 minute connection, it most definitely doesn't mean you should. There are several very good reasons to allow at least 4 hours.

Daughter and son in law flew to Lanzagrotty for £17 last Monday, Return flight tomorrow £9. Didn't realise RyanAir had outside toilets. :D

Don't bother if you're booking with the Irish git, though, because they'll take your money then the car park will try to charge you £245 on your return. >:(
In fact, just stay in the UK or drive. Much less of a PITA.

My other half has been booking the flights direct through the airline, but as the weather is improving we have seen the flight costs rise sharply and more so for week end travel..
I have had a good look at Goggle flights and yes I agree there are savings. :y
I found putting the departure airport in and doing a search got the best results then add destination airport and changing the dates got good results.
Same with trains from Kings Cross simply changing the time to travel after 9:15am was saving 25%

Firstly, Easter is coming up, so lots of travel around that, and as Greece etc open for the Summer all the kid free peeps book up all the term time spaces. And obviously if you look any where near school holidays then availability plummets and prices rise.
Another thing to consider is that a "cheap" fare might not include hold bags or larger hand luggage. And on any given route, paying for all the add ons with easyJet is still cheaper than business class on a legacy carrier even allowing for lounge access and food/drink on board.
Another consideration is that the "cheapest" fare might not be a direct flight, so if you get to spend 14 hours somewhere else on the way to your destination, what have you actually saved?

Our daughter usually sorts all our flights for us, don't know how she does it but we get some great prices.
