Just like having a charge to stay in a French hospital. Seems like a good idea. Might act as a deterrent.
Should be means tested too so that the rich pay more.
I am reading an excellent book at the moment on the actual mechanics of the transportation and life of convicts to Australia often for trivial offences. It is hard to believe it occurred only 200 years ago or so. Punishment ,for amazingly trivial violations in the colony , like 50 lashes just meted out on a whim. Sometimes the victim couldn’t be given the punishment all in one day and was brought back in a wheelbarrow the next for the balance.

Indeed. :y.........................although if it applied to teenagers when I was one I would have been lashed to death, coz I were an rsole. ;D

Just a few years earlier you had to pay for the torturer for your torture, and if you were pretty rich they would take you to the doctors to fix you up (for which you paid) to get you ready for the next session, and there it went to and fro until you run out of cash😳. What a lovely species we are💀

And you had to slip your executioner a few bob before he decapitated you so he didn't make a horlicks of it by using a penknife ;D

Yes read a book on Albert Pierrepoint one of his customers give him the four remaining woodbines out of the box and said have a smoke mate no bad feelings just do a good job, it went wrong he done the worse job he ever done. He was upset about that one

Sounds great to me , would like to have dished some of that treatment out to some of the cons I've had to deal with over the years.
