“Starmer has just taken us half way back into the EU, while of course denying that he is doing anything of the sort.
Probably the worst part is giving them another 12years of access to fishing UK waters.
Another 12 years of Spanish factory ships hoovering the fish out of the water, and there will be no fish left.
How much more betrayal can the remains of our fishing industry can the fishermen put up with ffs“
Thought I would start a new thread using your comment. I haven’t seen the detail yet - only the fishing element. Fishing accounts for less than 0.4% of UK GDP and would decline from new access by French and Spanish boats. You are quite right that Spain has very efficient trawlers that hoover the fish up. They need to as we folk in Spain eat a lot of fish compared to Brits. I have a friend in Truro who also eats a lot of fish and we compare notes on prices and availability. Some items caught and exported by British fishermen to Spain are cheaper here than they are back home. How can that be? Apparently no market .
The expat forums are all full of how “ we” won’t have to queue at third country passport control. That could be a trade off for the fishing……… ( that is tongue in cheek).
Again we need to see the detail but my gut feeling ( as someone who still believes Britain is better out of the federal beast called the EU) is why not have closer links within reason? We have more affinity with Europe than anywhere else even if there was a change of US president. The world is a pretty polarised place now.

You must remember that Starmer and the man who negotiated this deal are both arch Europhiles (as are pretty much all of his cabinet) who fought tooth and nail to have the Brexit result ignored or cancelled. Then fought hard for a second Referendum.
I said before Starmer was elected that his one big ambition while in office would be to get the UK back into the EU.
Probably planning to pave the way during his first term and then do the dirty deed in the second.
I have no doubt that is exactly what he is doing, although I cant see him having a second term to complete the job.
The fishing thing isnt about GDP for me. Its a totemic thing.
Very hard working people, doing a highly dangerous job, in what was once a great industry being cast aside, apparently for the sake of holiday makers not having to queue for so long at passport control.
Personally I have little, if any affinity with Europe. Apart from Italy, I wouldnt give a toss of the whole continent were to sink beneath the sea.
I have felt much more "at home" in the U.S. when I visited than I have ever done in any European country.
-
As an occasional visitor to European countries, generally once or twice a year, I've never noticed any increase in queuing times at passport control in those countries.
The problem is always the passport control at the UK airport on your way back, with Gatwick being particularly incompetent, but Luton ain't far behind. In Luton's case, it doesn't matter, because the baggage handlers normally need about 2 hours to pack up their mats and get back to work. No deal is going to improve that.

I always knew you we're odd ;D
That said, from a USA point of view, I've only ever been to Florida. Once was enough. We were there when Hurricane Michael went through, I was hooping it would improve the place, but not even that could shine up that turd...
-
I second that. You arrive at Leeds and they have two buses and wait till the very last person staggers off the plane before sending both buses. This passport control receives a glut .
-
Starmer, like Blair before him, is a globalist who has no sense of country.
He would be quite happy to see Britain renamed as 'Sector 4' or similar dystopian shit.
No borders required.

The queuing issue is normally at European airports that serve package holiday flights. Geneva and Chambery can be chaos at the wrong time.
Basically, the tour operators fault because they have several flights all arriving at roughly the same time, so the PAX can be distributed around the various destination resorts. For ski flights (the ones I use) there is often a Manchester, Gatwick, Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds, Newcastle, Edinburgh all scheduled to land between 9 and 10am, and each will have 150-200 holiday makers on it. So there can be well over 1000 PAX trying to get through immigration between 9am and 11am on a Saturday morning. Then absolutely nothing from noon Saturday till 9am the following Saturday.
Places like Geneva and Zurich 'should' be able to cope - these are bigger airports but they also have scheduled flights from all over the world. You don't want to land at Geneva just after an Emirates/Qatar A330 or B-777 (don't think A-380s operate into GVA thank god).
Regional airports like Chambery basically have terminals not much bigger than a portacabin with 2 or 3 immigration officials on duty for the Saturday morning rush. If it takes 30 seconds per person to do the passport checking, then handling the Saturday morning surge (1000 pax, 3 officers, 0.5 minute per pax) takes 160 minutes - basically almost 3 hours. If your flight is last to land then you're in for a long wait. Just hope it isn't raining/snowing coz the airline crew want you off the plane so they can take returning holiday makers home again, meaning you'll be stood out on the tarmac queuing to get into the terminal.
Also remember that Schengen is a stamp you in, stamp you out zone, so for every passenger arriving there is likely to be one leaving too. That means if you've got 1000 pax arriving on a Saturday between 9am and 10am, you're very likely to have 1000 pax departing home again at roughly the same time. So you're going to need another 3 immigration officers handling departures. So the airport needs 6 officers on duty from 9am to noon on a Saturday, but probably only needs a single officer to handle everything for the rest of the week.

Ursula von der Leyen seems to get whatever she wants from British Prime Ministers, so I can only think that she must give an amazing blow job! :-X ::)

I didn't think it was possible for me to dislike Starmer more than I already do, but I have a real hatred for the man who doesn't give a flying f**k about the people of the UK.

Well now you mention it, it is curious how a 21 year Ukrainian man knows so much about him. The house he owns, the flat where he used to live and the car he used to own. :-X

Even curiouser, a 26 year old Romanian man has been arrested in connection with the arson attacks. I wonder how Starmer knows these young men from Eastern Europe. ??? ::)
Even curiouser still.... Why are the media showing zero interest? ??? After all it's not every day that a sitting PM is targeted like this? ??? Injunction? ??? :-\

Can only hope that some "sleaze" comes to light about the scumbag Starmer , I would pay good money to watch him squirm his way out of those accusations.

Apparently the Ukrainian is a 'Male Model'. :-X
And it's pure speculation on my part, but the flat that the media have described as 'somewhere Starmer used to live' was/is in fact a 'shag pad'. ???

Won't happen Rangie , the "D" Notice took care of that .
Much similar to the Super Injunction that Nicola Sturgeon is believed to have used to prevent the Press speaking about her sham marriage and lesbian affairs .It was blatently apparant that she was presenting a lie to the public to bolster her public personna as a happy wife in an idylic marriage , but the SJ ( that was reputed to have cost a quarter of a million per annum and paid by whom .....) effectivly gagged the press .
IMO that quisling starmer is up to his anus in gay relationships , which if made public could be compared to The Profumo Affair .
The revolting stench of sleaze and depravity that follows him like a puppy dog is not an unfortunate coincidence .
He's a vile creature that has no compuction about staring the camera square on and telling bare faced lies and in all my years I cannot think of another politician that I have felt such loathing for .
I truly fear for the state of the UK in the near future .
