Title: VodaThree
Post by: zirk on 03 June 2025, 21:27:01
So it looks like the Vodafone and Three Merger thing has finally been given the Green Light today.

From a Personal point of view still undecided on the Commercial side of things as Thee have alwys seemed to aim at the cheaper Tariffs for Consumers where VF tries to targets it's efforts into Business and Corporates, maybe they will leave it well alone for the time being.

From a Technical point of view it's good news as Three have so much of the 5G high end Band Spectrum (n78 the stuff that runs on 3300 to 3800mhz with loads of Bandwidth) that they almost didn't know what to do with it, mix that with Vodafones existing lower 2/3 and 4G bands it could be a nice overall Network outcome if they plan it right.

Maybe they'll call it Threefone.  :)

And in Ireland it will be called Treefone!  ;D

I wonder which bright spark in the Business Dept thought it was a good idea to let two giants of the British telecommunications sector merge and take away competition and choice for consumers?  ???  ::)

Probably the same bright spark who let Orange and T Mobile merge to become EE.

Although I doubt it was the same bright spark who when Vodafone bought Orange all them years ago and was then told they had to sell Orange again as it was seen as unfair Competition.

 ;D  ???

It leaves 3 big mobile players - VodafoneThree, EE and VMO2.  That should be enough for competition.

Smaller players simply cannot raise the capital needed to create networks, as Three have clearly demonstrated for years.

As always, selecting an MVNO can reduce costs if you just need a simple voice/text/data service, and not the little add-ons like visual voicemail etc...

This is what we do, pretty much the whole family is on Lebara sims (Vodafone network iirc), basic but works and no lengthy contract tie-ins so if they do fuŁk up, its easy enough to give them the boot.  :y

Same here. Lebara rolling monthly contract which can be cancelled at any time.
 Suits my needs just fine.

Yup, Lebara is handy for Voda - not that Voda works in these parts.  NiffNaff is pretty good MVNO if you want to use VMO2, as is Tesco if you want the ease of a contract.  I think Tesco offer free EU roaming on many of their contracts, if thats important to you.  I know Uncle Albert loves to go on trips to France...

I heard he's thinking of retiring there soon.
