Title: log book truble
Post by: nick v6 on 17 September 2008, 15:37:38
ive had my omega now nearly 3 weeks roughly
ive got the little green slip from the previous owner as for him to send the rest off the the dvla for it to be changed into my name
i got pulled over by the old bill this norning and they tell me that the car is still not in my name and i had to show the green slip to prove it
they also told me because its been over 2 weeks i cannot tax the car at the end of the month as the slips only covers for 2 weeks and i cannot tax it online as the tax disc will goto the previuos owners address

ive tried ringing the previous owner and everytime it rings a bit then goes to answer phone.
anyone have a clue on what i do now apart from going the 20 odd mile if not more to his house the other side of birmningham

We had similar with the new MV6.

We sorted it on the spot in the local DLVA office.
We had to get the class changed on this one as well.

as it had been over a month, they could count it as never received, so freely gave a new one, and changed the class, and gave us the tax disk.

Claim ownership with what I think is a V62 document. Will cost you £20.

i dont fancy having to pay out £20 for the previous owner not sending off the log book in the first place

You won't have to pay the £25 (the current price for a 'missing' V5.)
If you have the green slip, pop down to your local DVLA office, fill in a V62, and see the nice people behind the desk.
Explain thet you have the green slip, but the previous owner has not sent his piece of paper to them. (it may have been sent, but lost in the post!)
They will waive the £25 fee, and register the car in your name whilst you are there. If you take the MOT, and insurance certificate, fill in the tax form, and they will also issue you with a tax disc at the same time. (6 months tax currently £101, 12 months £185)

The new V5 (in your name) will arrive in about 7 - 10 days..

How do I know???  Did all this about a week ago, as the previous owner assured me he had sent the docs off to Swansea, but they said they never received them (presume lost in the post?).. Swansea advised me to do the above..

Works a treat..Registered, taxed inside 20 minutes!!! Well done those DVLA people!!  :)

Hope this helps.  :y

Top stuff, haven't had my docs through and have been putting it off as I was a bit pee'd about having to pay to get them as I'm a new keeper. Though I wonder how long before you have to pay to change keeper any way?
