Anyone found a decent source of the brass sliders for ignition locks. The old link that has been posted on this site is long since no longer stocked. Hoping now that this generation of barrels is getting to 'classic' levels (I'm guessing they use the same sliders as Mk III Cav, Astra, all the early 90s stuff)
I used to collect all the barely used sliders out of breaker's glovebox locks and bootlocks. I've very handily thrown them in the same bag as my originals and no idea which are the clapped out ones and which are the as-new.
Which is nice. :D

i usually have found that a slightly worn brass slider will end up being correct for a different slider requirement in another slot .as they are spring loaded anyway and have never paid attention to (or noticed / looked for )any id markings if they have any ! i have often found that its the key fitment in the barrel that causes the most issues with wear anyway .

That's a really good point actually, as the cars all get older, it's about what works not necessarily what the 'by the book' answer is. I've basically filed mine to work. I have a small stock of as new sliders/levers (from glovebox locks) and tried a couple, and they still stuck a little. Clearly the key itself is also worn.
For now I'm just waiting for the rain to stop so I can get on with jobs!! ;D

You can also remove the sliders altogether.
Visually the key will be seen as to be working normally. And unless you mention doing it publicly no one will ever know.

Yep, ran for a few years before being laid up with only half in,no reason to suppose I couldn't. It's not necessarily any different from them Renaults when they did the keycard thing, and a separate starter button.
Even had one thought a while ago of having essentially a single plip, keeping the transponder taped to the inside of the barrel (or relocate them to such as inside the centre cubby) some sort of a lever or similar ergonomically shaped thing permanently sat in the ignition. And a starter button located where the cigarette lighter is. All a bit pointless but then again if life was all about what makes sense I wouldn't be recommissioning a 29yr old, 24mpg car that's slower than a Kid EV. ;D

Starter button is a total waste of effort.

Agreed . Remember about ten years ago when everyone had to start retrofitting the things.
As if integration a starter button into the clockwise motion of the key like ever other car did prior isnt clearly the better option.
