Title: 2001 2.5d has tickover stumble
Post by: weldit on 24 July 2025, 20:06:06
Hi, Guys, I would appreciate any ideas about this issue: 2001 2.5 turbo diesel. Starts very well all the time, revs up fine and drives spot on, lots of power, when it is left ticking over, it has a miss, on one cylinder. Tried a new fuel filter, no difference. Every now and again, it will actually stop. It does start up again, no problem.

Has anybody had this issue?

Cheers
Dvae

Does it happen in the first few minutes of starting, if so, I'd check the glowplugs out.

Weak lift pump?  Though I'd thought the high pressure pump would quickly overcome that.

Beyond that, as it's the non common rail variant, not a lot else to go wrong - pump, pipework, injector.  Look for leaks, and bleed the injector pipework (start car, then one at a time, crack open the nut holding the fuel pipe to top of injector until it spouts out diesel)

Sensor wise, it hasn't got much.  Crank sensor is located on top of bell housing, though pretty robust generally on those.
