A quick plea.
Whilst we all want to welcome new members and encourage them, just lately this seems to be getting a little daft, with new posts going on to very old welcome threads.
Can we try to refrain from welcomes on welcome threads older than around a week please?
Ta.

Of course the other option is to make posts here and in the newbies forum not go towards your post count. :o ;)

Would you still talk to yourself Theo if no post count was involved ::)

I think the only welcomers are people desperate for posts, I was surprised Tunnie didn't do the lot

When I joined I thought it was great getting a welcome........

I think it shows we are a friendly community if we welcome new members in such a way. But its a bit daft dragging up 3 month old welcomes....

Especially if they'd joined before the person doing the welcoming.......
-
I agree, it made me feel very...er....welcome when I joined up ;D How about having a gentlemans agreement that once a new member reaches say 20 welcomes, no more are posted?
Cheers Jim

My sincere apololgies TB :-[, and I am not going to use the excuse that I was half peed last night :o...But I am glad I did because I found that post with that lovely avatar, so it was worth it, I just wish I'd found it earlier :D

bttt to remind everyone ;)

bttt
PLEASE STOP DOING IT >:(
-
OFFICIAL WARNING!
If you drag up a welcome thread more than a week old, the Admins will take "appropriate action" >:(
This time we won't "play" with post counts, we will remove them permanently!
-
Can you not make the Welcome area not count to post counts?
That would probably stop it :-/
-
Is there an easy way of locking threads after a week or so?
-

Possibly.
However, we want people to give a nice friendly welcome to newbies, who may not have used a forum before, and it helps such people get the confidence to join in...
But we do not want the current ridiculous situation of members dragging up 4/5 month old threads welcoming people >:(
-
Program newbie threads to self-destuct (or self delete) after one week ;D

Why should we have to. If I can manage not to do it, yet still manage to welcome members, so can everyone else....

Thats not a bad idea.....well not going that far ;D.....i agree with TB welcome area gives confidence/etc.....is there anyway then to lock threads in the welcome area after say a week/2 weeks automatically??

Agreed....but your upto over 5000+ posts and maybe some members want a quick boost to the next level ::)
-
We can go in and prune the threads, actually some pruning may not be a bad idea...
BUT, as I said before, you drag up an old welcome thread, and we will drag down your post count... severely!

Well said LB :y Not that im replying to add another post to mine of course ;)
Actually i carnt remember the last time i visted the welcome area :-[
-
I am against the general principle of pruning, sometimes useful snippets get lost that way....
-
Pruning needs to be done carefully...
However, to prevent any more foolishness with the newbie posts I have locked them... ;)

Damm im too late then ;)
-
Where are they all? 50 new members in a month and only a couple of posts in newbie welcome section. Admittedly I've never posted my hello and think it's a bit late now, but that was before Tunnie's new how to be a newbie guide.

Sorry I meant Timbuk and I see it's buried on page 2 and never made it as a sticky. :'(
